Description

What kind of wine it is

Lequilibrio by Montalbera is a still red wine from Piedmont that expresses the essence of Barbera d’Asti Superiore, the result of traditional vinification and ageing in wood. The bouquet combines red berry jam, raspberry and blackcurrant with elegant notes of dark chocolate and undergrowth. On the palate, it offers a long and smooth sip, characterised by a harmonious tannic structure and the balanced acidity typical of Barbera grapes. This profile makes it the ideal companion to enhance red meats and mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from Piedmont, specifically from the areas of Castagnole Monferrato and Montemagno. In these regions, historically suited to Barbera, the vines are cultivated using the Guyot training system with low yields, maintaining few buds per cane. This targeted vineyard management ensures concentrated fruit, capable of imparting a pronounced territorial identity to the glass, combining aromatic intensity with a natural structural freshness.

How it is produced

Production involves a traditional red vinification with maceration on the skins for at least twelve days. Ageing continues for around fifteen to eighteen months in a blend of barriques, tonneaux and large casks made from Allier French oak. After developing its aromatic profile, the wine rests for a month in stainless steel tanks and completes its maturation with a period of bottle ageing to finish its evolution.

The Montalbera Winery was founded at the beginning of the 20th century in an area located in the townships of Grana, Castagnole Monferrato, and Montemagno.

In the mid-1980s, the Morando family began expanding their property by purchasing land in adjacent territories and planting it with new grapevines, prevalently Ruchè; they continue to grow their landholdings. Today, a continuous stretch of vineyard-covered land encircles the winery. The vineyards are planted entirely on hillsides, giving the vines different expositions and soil, from clay to limestone.

A unique aspect that has always distinguished Montalbera in the Piedmontese winemaking landscape is that the winery sits astride two of the region’s most important winemaking zones: the Monferrato and the Langhe.
