Description
What kind of wine it is
Alta Langa Pas Dosé by Montalbera is a sparkling wine from Piedmont with controlled and guaranteed designation of origin, produced using the Traditional Method from a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. It displays a straw yellow colour with greenish highlights and a fine perlage, combining notes of candied fruit with hints of brioche. On the palate, it is dry, with a fresh and creamy structure supported by a pleasant savouriness, making it ideal for accompanying delicate starters, cheeses, and fish dishes.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in the hilly vineyards of Piedmont, between Monferrato and the Langhe, in the municipalities of Grana, Castagnole Monferrato, and Montemagno. The different exposures allow Montalbera to obtain fruit with a very precise aromatic profile. The soils are characterised by a deep clay and limestone matrix, a composition that gives the wine a distinct territorial identity. This geological richness ensures the acidity and gustatory tension essential for creating high-quality base wines, crucial for the formation of the mousse and for preserving the longevity of the sip.
How it is produced
The vinification protocol involves the use of the Traditional Method, starting with gentle pressing. The wine undergoes a slow maturation on the lees for 36 months in temperature-controlled environments, promoting the integration of aromas and the elegance of the perlage. At disgorgement, the topping up is carried out exclusively with the same cuvée, without any sugar dosage. This technical choice aims to enhance the integrity of the grape variety and ensures a dry, savoury flavour profile with a notably persistent finish.
History and Curiosities
Created by oenologist Nino Falcone between the Langhe and Monferrato regions, this exclusive limited-edition sparkling wine expresses the true vocation of the territory. The Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes, grown on clay-limestone soils, are vinified according to the strict Traditional Method. A refined 36-month maturation on the lees shapes its complex structure, while topping up with the same cuvée enhances the vintage's identity. The excellence of this Pas Dosé is confirmed by 90 points from James Suckling and 4 bunches from Bibenda.

In the mid-1980s, the Morando family began expanding their property by purchasing land in adjacent territories and planting it with new grapevines, prevalently Ruchè; they continue to grow their landholdings. Today, a continuous stretch of vineyard-covered land encircles the winery. The vineyards are planted entirely on hillsides, giving the vines different expositions and soil, from clay to limestone.
A unique aspect that has always distinguished Montalbera in the Piedmontese winemaking landscape is that the winery sits astride two of the region’s most important winemaking zones: the Monferrato and the Langhe. Read more
