Description

What kind of wine it is

Champagne Monmarthe Privilege Brut is an organic sparkling wine that embodies the elegance of the Traditional Method. The blend enhances the structural characteristics of Pinot Noir and the aromatic finesse imparted by Chardonnay, presenting itself with a bright golden colour. The nose is sharp and broad. On the palate, clear notes of quince jam and honey emerge, outlining remarkable aromatic complexity. The sip ensures a perfect balance between persistence and liveliness, qualities recognised by the Hachette Guide.

Where it comes from

This wine originates in Ludes, in the renowned Montagne de Reims area. Champagne from this region benefits from the Premier Cru classification, which identifies terroirs of high viticultural value. The Monmarthe estate, a historic family-run business founded in 1930, manages its own vineyards through rigorous organic and sustainable farming practices. The close synergy between the vines and the surrounding environment gives the grapes a distinct territorial identity, resulting in a consistent and well-defined style, an authentic expression of its place of origin.

How it is produced

Production strictly follows the rules of the Traditional Method, incorporating malolactic fermentation. The wine undergoes cellar ageing for over three years, a crucial phase for expanding the aromatic range and consolidating the flavour structure. The Brut dosage preserves the freshness of the cuvée. At the table, it offers precise food pairings: served chilled, it is ideal as an aperitif with foie gras crostini and gougères, and pairs excellently with shellfish, buttered fish, and cheeses such as Langres.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1930 in Ludes, the historic family-run Monmarthe estate embodies French excellence through this Champagne Premier Cru Brut. Combining a precious winemaking heritage with rigorous organic and sustainable practices, the estate produces elegant and memorable sparkling wines. The production process faithfully follows the traditional champenoise method with malolactic fermentation, completed by over three years of ageing in the cellar. This meticulous process, also praised by the Hachette Guide, gives the wine a distinctive style that celebrates the tradition and prestige of the region.

The family Monmarthe has been living in Ludes since 1737 and has been owning agricultural lands and vineyards. Yet the main activity of Sebastien Monmarthe and Leon Monmarthe is carrier of wines.

In Monmarthe family everything begins in 1930. Ernest Monmarthe decides to launch his own champagne : Champagne Ernest Monmarthe. The production is very low and the agriculture is the main income of the family. Thanks to Leon Monmarthe and his wife Anne Marie, Champagne Monmarthe develops and the house is getting bigger. In 1960, the production reaches 60,000 bottles.

When Guy Monmarthe arrives in the company, it is the beginning of a period of modernization and commercial development. In 1990, Jean-Guy arrives in the estate to rule it with his father. It also marks the arrival of new tanks and the market opens to export market.

Today the house is run by Jean-Guy Monmarthe, the 6th generation.
