Description

What kind of wine it is

Mirafiore Barolo Riserva is a red wine that precisely interprets Nebbiolo. To the eye, it displays a deep garnet colour with ruby highlights. The bouquet is clear, characterised by spicy notes of wormwood, cocoa, mint, black cherry and leather. On the palate, it offers a full entry, supported by sweet and velvety tannins that lead to a long, warm finish. Its enveloping nature makes it ideal to pair with red meat dishes, game and mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

The grapes are grown in Serralunga d’Alba, in the heart of Barolo, among the renowned Lazzarito and Paiagallo vineyards situated between three hundred and four hundred metres above sea level. The local geology is defined by soils rich in clay and Miocene-Helvetian and Tortonian calcareous marls, which give the wine excellent tannic structure and pronounced aromatic precision. The management of the rows reflects the philosophy of Mirafiore, a historic winery founded in 1878 to enhance the finest expressions of the region.

How it is produced

The process begins with fermentation lasting about fifteen days in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. This is followed by a prolonged submerged cap maceration for forty days, essential for optimal extraction of polyphenolic substances. The character of the wine is defined through a strict five-year ageing: the first three years spent in medium and large Slavonian oak barrels, followed by a year in cement tanks and a final rest in bottle before release.

History and Curiosities

Born on a historic estate founded in 1878, this exclusive Barolo Riserva 2016 embodies the purest tradition of Serralunga d’Alba. The prized Nebbiolo originates from the renowned Lazzarito and Paiagallo vineyards, maturing for five years before revealing its enveloping elegance. The patient ageing in large Slavonian oak barrels bestows this Piedmontese red with complex aromas and velvety tannins. Awarded 93 points by James Suckling, this wine celebrates the absolute excellence of the Langhe, offering a tasting experience destined to stand the test of time.

Casa Di Mirafiore is located in Serralunga d'Alba (Cuneo), in the Piedmont region. The winery was founded at the end of the 1800s by Count Emanuele Alberto of Mirafiore, son of Vittorio Emanuele II and La Bella Rosin.

Since 1878, Casa E. Di Mirafiore has been overlooking this UNESCO world heritage landscape with his estates in Barolo and Serralunga, the heart of one of the world's most famous wines: Barolo. It is also thanks to Casa E. Di Mirafiore that the world is aware of Barolo. It is in fact the first winery to export Barolo worldwide.

This estate is synonymous with quality, as it is home to two of the best Cru vineyards in the Langhe: Lazzarito (on one of Serralunga d'Alba's most magnificent slopes) and Paiagallo.

In this town, Serralunga d'Alba, tradition is never forgotten. Even today, the style of Casa E. Mirafiore is defined by fermentation in concrete tanks and enormous Slavonian oak barrels for ageing.
