Description

What kind of wine is it

Michel Rolland Val de Flores Malbec, part of the Michel Rolland Collection, is an organic Argentinian red wine made exclusively from Malbec grapes. In the glass, it displays garnet reflections and an intense aroma of blackberry, violet and cedar. On the palate, it is a dense and opulent wine, supported by creamy and silky tannins that envelop the sip. The tasting concludes with a persistent finish characterised by notes of liquorice and gingerbread, outlining a complex and structured profile.

Where does it come from

This Malbec originates from the Val de Flores vineyard, located in the Uco Valley at an altitude of 1,100 metres. Here, the marked diurnal temperature variation ensures optimal ripening and perfect aromatic balance of the grapes. The alluvial soils, rich in silt and gravel, nourish fifty-year-old vines fed by the pure meltwater from the Andes. These pedoclimatic conditions enhance the characteristics of the grape variety, giving the wine a distinct and unmistakable territorial identity.

How is it produced

Production follows sustainable practices, beginning with an early morning manual harvest to preserve the freshness of the fruit. After a double selection, fermentation takes place in small cement vats and new French oak barrels. This is followed by a prolonged thirty-month maturation in barrels, which smooths the structure and amplifies its softness. This careful process ensures remarkable ageing potential and makes it ideal paired with flavourful white meats or hearty first courses from traditional cuisine.

History and Curiosities

Val de Flores enriches the Rolland Collection, in which oenologist Michel Rolland combines the ancient Bordeaux tradition with the great productions of the New World. The 2020 vintage is a superb 100% organic Malbec that comes from the eponymous single vineyard located at 1,100 metres above sea level in the renowned Uco Valley, Argentina. Here, the historic fifty-year-old vines thrive thanks to the pure waters from the melting Andean snows, yielding grapes of absolute excellence. Awarded a score of 93/100 by Vinous, this wine is the result of deeply sustainable agriculture.

From this winery
We are Dany and Michel Rolland, wine growers. We have enriched the family heritage with passion and experience with various French and foreign productions, now grouped in the 'Rolland collection'. The Rolland Collection is the range of our Bordeaux wines from the right bank, the historic cradle of the Rolland family in Pomerol, expanded with our favourites "from elsewhere" during our professional travels: the New World, with a range of wines from Argentina and one from South Africa, and tomorrow... perhaps other oenological or sentimental adventures. Rolland Collection also distributes wines from estates where we are the consulting oenologists, Michel and his team, intervening only for advice on viticulture and oenology, blending and ageing, with the experience of our 40 years of field practice.

And it is in the family that everything is organised and harmonised, from vinification to marketing, from the vine to the glass. It is in the family that everything is passed on: respect, sensitivity, culture, openness, and passion. Welcome to our wine world, which is also a world tour, which tells family stories and discoveries and displays photos like an album!
