Description
What kind of wine it is
Roero Riserva La Val dei Preti by Matteo Correggia is an organic red wine that embodies the essence of Piedmont. Made from Nebbiolo grapes, it displays an intense ruby red colour with garnet highlights. On the nose, it offers saline hints and balsamic notes, enriched by nuances of violet, lavender, preserved black cherry and oriental spices. On the palate, it is fresh and generous, characterised by a pleasant fruity fleshiness and a velvety tannin. The tasting concludes with a distinctly savoury finish, ideal for pairing with red meat dishes, pork-based preparations and mature cheeses, preferably after decanting for an hour.
Where it comes from
The vineyards are located in Canale, in the heart of Roero. The vines are trained using the Guyot system with optimal southern exposure, at an altitude between 260 and 290 metres, ensuring consistent and regular ripening. The roots delve into a sandy soil, composed mainly of fine sand and silt with a small proportion of clay. This specific soil profile is reflected in the glass, giving the wine a pronounced smoothness on the palate and enhancing the aromatic definition typical of this terroir.
How it is produced
The grapes destined for the Riserva version are harvested by hand-picking at the beginning of October. In the winery, vinification involves a skin maceration of about ten days in stainless steel tanks, an ideal process for balanced extraction of colour and tannins. Subsequently, the wine matures for at least fifteen months in wooden barrels, a fundamental stage for integrating the structure while preserving the fruit's elegance. A further bottle ageing of twelve months completes the harmony of flavour, allowing the aromatic profile to reach full expressive maturity.
History and Curiosities
Born on the sandy soils of Canale, this excellent organic Nebbiolo is hand-harvested at the beginning of October. Careful ageing in barrels for 15 months followed by further rest in the bottle ensures its extraordinary longevity. On the palate, this Piedmontese masterpiece delights with a rich, fruity fleshiness and an irresistible tannic velvet. To enhance its elegant balsamic and spicy notes, it is recommended to decant for an hour, making it ideal for accompanying succulent red meats and flavourful mature cheeses.

All the wines by Matteo Correggia are the result of personal experience, and there is no room for fashion or doctrine. The concern has always persevered when the results have been good, but never stopping to dare or consider what could be done better. Wine making takes place in modern wine cellars, in stainless stell vats at controlled temperature, while ageing is done in the large rooms created under the hill where Marun first began, in contact with the fossil rich millennial marlstones, that give them the dampness and quitness necessary as the perfect compliment to the whole process in the vineyards and wine cellars. the barrels and casks are carefully selected for the wines they will host, and gradually replaced according to a twenty-years pratice geared to avoid olfactory impact from the wood. All wines are bottled on the premises, in dedicated areas, where a large warehouse for stocking the bottles underground is attacched. The bottles are also labeled here, in keeping with Matteo Correggia Concer tradition. They are decorated with paintings by Coco Cano depictiong the gentle slopes planted with vines and bathed by the roero's hot sun. Read more
