Description
What kind of wine it is
The Massolino Barbaresco is a still red wine that expresses the authentic character of Nebbiolo, the symbol of the prestigious Barbaresco denomination. In the glass, it displays a bright garnet red hue, hinting at a seductive aromatic profile where notes of lilac, wild cherry and mineral nuances stand out. On the palate, it reveals a silky texture and a medium body of great harmony, supported by fine tannins and a measured acidity. A wine of classic and clear charm, capable of evolving magnificently over time and enhancing flavourful dishes such as roast red meats and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in Piedmont, in the municipality of Neive, a highly prized area of the Barbaresco denomination. The Nebbiolo grapes come from the renowned Albesani, Serraboella and Starderi vineyards, which provide a refined and complex expression. The nature of the medium-textured soil is reflected in the sip, supporting a harmonious progression and a solid structure. Massolino, a historic family estate founded in 1896, interprets the vocation of this land, delivering an essential profile deeply connected to its origins.
How it is produced
Production follows typical local methods, involving fermentation in oak vats at controlled temperature with a medium-length maceration. Maturation then takes place in large Slavonian oak barrels for up to eighteen months, ensuring measured development and perfect integration of the tannic structure. The process concludes with a period of rest away from light for a final balancing, preparing the wine for an elegant evolution over the years.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1896 in Serralunga d’Alba, the Massolino winery produces a Barbaresco DOCG 2022 from Nebbiolo grapes grown in the renowned crus of Neive. The meticulous traditional vinification and slow maturation in Slavonian oak barrels for 18 months shape a profile of pure elegance. Awarded by international critics, this red wine captivates with its harmonious palate and alluring aromas of wild cherry and lilac. A Piedmontese masterpiece distinguished by its fine tannins and exceptional balance, offering an enveloping and refined tasting experience.

With tenacity and passion, we have been making wine since 1896.
Azienda Agricola Massolino Vigna Rionda is the dream of our great-grandfather Giovanni, who founded the estate in 1896. In those days, it was a traditional Langa farm, producing fruit and vegetables, raising livestock and making wine.
Our family is firmly at the helm of the historic estate that inhaled the vibrant air full of change of the late 19th century and navigated the tides of the first half of the 20th century. Today, we face the new challenges of the 21st century, in the capable hands of the third and fourth generations.
We are Massolino Vigna Rionda and we are writing a legacy with our wines. Read more
