Description
What kind of wine it is
Castello di Semivicoli Pecorino Superiore by Masciarelli is a still white wine that expresses the authentic soul of the Abruzzo Pecorino region. Made from Pecorino grapes, it appears a straw yellow colour enlivened by greenish highlights. The persistent olfactory profile opens with clear balsamic notes, evoking aromas of sage, thyme and mountain herbs, enhanced by delicate fruity and floral nuances. On the palate, it is lively and fragrant, supported by a solid structure and a pleasant mineral streak that leads to a clean finish, defining a fresh and elegant style, enhanced by fermentation in stainless steel.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the vineyards surrounding Castello di Semivicoli, a historic baronial residence located in Casacanditella, in the province of Chieti. The rows are situated at around 350 metres above sea level and are cultivated using the simple high-density Guyot system. The medium-textured soil ensures the ideal balance of the plant and promotes even ripening of the bunches. This specific pedoclimatic context gives the wine a defined aromatic expression, reflecting the deep territorial vocation of the Masciarelli winery.
How it is produced
Harvesting takes place in September, favouring low yields per hectare to preserve the integrity of the Pecorino varietal profile. In the winery, fermentation in stainless steel is a deliberate choice to protect the purity of the fruit and the original balsamic components. The entire vinification process aims to offer a smooth and consistent drink, enhancing the wine's natural structure, freshness and distinct mineral imprint, without any external interference with the primary aromas.
History and Curiosities
This range celebrates the Castello di Semivicoli, a baronial palace built between the 17th and 18th centuries and now transformed into an elegant boutique relais. From the vineyards surrounding the historic residence in Casacanditella, at an altitude of 350 metres, comes an elegant single-varietal Pecorino. The expertise of Masciarelli, a benchmark in Abruzzo winemaking since 1981, combines a strong local vocation with a deep respect for tradition: a wine that transforms an architectural symbol into an authentic expression of identity, waiting to be discovered in the glass.
