Description
What kind of wine it is
Costa Nera Masari is a still, dry organic red wine, an expression of the Veneto region. It is crafted from carefully selected Pinot Noir grapes, revealing an elegant, bright ruby red colour in the glass. The sensory analysis unveils a measured bouquet, characterised by intense notes of forest fruits and a distinct hint of blackcurrant. On the palate, it displays a harmonious and inviting structure, offering a juicy and smooth drinkability that accompanies the tasting with great technical precision.
Where it comes from
The grapes are sourced from the Agno Valley, an area in Veneto highly suited to viticulture. The vineyards tended by Masari are situated at around three hundred metres above sea level, rooted in volcanic soils. The richness of tuff and basalt gives the grape variety a strong identity, enhancing its expressive clarity. Cultivation follows the principles of organic and sustainable agriculture, ensuring respect for the local ecosystem and a production that authentically reflects the unique characteristics of the Venetian terroir.
How it is produced
The production cycle begins with manual harvesting of the bunches, which are carefully selected. The must undergoes spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in wooden vats, followed by maceration on the skins for at least three weeks. Maturation continues with twelve months of ageing in small oak barrels, an essential step to refine the structure and character of the Pinot Noir. The process concludes with a resting period, fundamental for shaping a cohesive and balanced flavour profile.
History and Curiosities
Since 1998, the Masari family has been enhancing the authenticity of the Valle d’Agno, creating fascinating expressions of the Veneto region. Carefully overseen by oenologist Massimo Dal Lago, the Pinot Nero Costanera 2023 is produced from vines grown at an altitude of 300 metres. Here, the roots delve into extraordinary volcanic soils rich in tuff and basalt, giving a distinctive identity to an artisanal production of around 50,000 bottles.
