Description
What kind of wine it is
Costa d’Amalfi Furore Rosso Riserva is a still red wine by Marisa Cuomo, created from a blend of Aglianico and Piedirosso. It displays an intense red colour with deep ruby highlights. The aromatic bouquet reveals notes of blackberries, blackcurrants and blueberries. On the palate, it is smooth and well balanced, finishing with an elegant hint of undergrowth and spices. This wine is ideal when served between sixteen and eighteen degrees after an hour of aeration, perfect for pairing with braised meats and mature cheeses, with an ageing potential of ten to fifteen years.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from Campania, along the slopes of the Amalfi Coast, in the municipality of Furore. Here, Marisa Cuomo practises heroic viticulture, with vines clinging to rocky walls between two hundred and five hundred and fifty metres above sea level. The southern exposure, the influence of the sea and the dolomitic-limestone rock soil encourage a pronounced aromatic concentration. With a limited yield, the grapes capture the essence of the land before being processed in the evocative cellar carved into the rock.
How it is produced
The harvest is carried out by hand in the third week of October, selecting only fully ripe bunches which are then destemmed and crushed. Vinification begins with an intense thirty-day maceration on the skins to extract colour and structure, followed by malolactic fermentation. Ageing continues for twelve months in new French oak barrels. This maturation perfects the tannic balance and ensures a profound structural complexity, maintaining the smoothness on the palate and encouraging a marked propensity for evolution over time.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1983, Marisa Cuomo is the symbol of heroic viticulture on the Amalfi Coast. The vineyards cling to the dolomitic-limestone rocks of Furore, between 200 and 550 metres above sea level, kissed by the sun and tempered by the sea. In this evocative setting, characterised by a cellar carved into the rock, Andrea Ferraioli manages an estate of just 10 hectares. With a yield of 60 quintals per hectare, the 2021 vintage of Costa d’Amalfi Rosso Riserva was acclaimed by the AIS and FIS guides, confirming the prestige of an exceptional terroir.
