Description
What kind of wine it is
Pèppoli is a Chianti Classico by Marchesi Antinori, created to offer a fruity and lively expression. The result of a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Syrah, it stands out for its intense ruby red colour. On the nose, it releases notes of cherry and blackberry, enriched by floral hints of violet, balsamic nuances and light toasted undertones. On the palate, it is vibrant and fresh, with soft tannins that accompany a persistent and savoury finish. It is a balanced wine, perfect for pasta dishes with ragù and braised meats.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the Pèppoli estate, located in San Casciano Val di Pesa, just a few kilometres from the renowned Tenuta Tignanello. These lands, historically tended by the Vallombrosan monks since 1379, host hillside vineyards that benefit from an ideal microclimate. The production philosophy aims to enhance the Tuscan terroir, allowing the fruit to express the authentic characteristics of the area. The careful management of the vineyards by the Marchesi Antinori estate preserves the identity of the landscape, highlighting the finesse typical of this region.
How it is produced
The grapes are harvested and vinified separately to enhance the peculiarities of each variety. After gentle crushing and destemming, the must undergoes alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. During maceration, targeted interventions allow for the extraction of soft and velvety tannins. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is blended and aged for about nine months in large Slavonian oak casks, with a small portion in barriques, thus achieving impeccable structural harmony.
History and Curiosities
Produced since 1985 on the estate of the same name by the Marchesi Antinori, this wine has its roots in a history dating back to 1379, when the Vallombrosan monks were already cultivating these lands. On the one hundred hectares located near the Tignanello Estate, the company today combines medieval charm with the production of a fine organic oil and a Chianti Classico DOCG faithful to the most authentic Tuscan tradition. Every glass reveals the true aromatic expression of Sangiovese, offering a vibrant, fresh and pleasantly balanced tasting experience.

The Antinori family’s first encounter with wine dates back to 1385, when Giovanni di Piero Antinori joined the Guild of Wine Merchants to make the best use of the family’s country properties in Valdarno, around Florence.
However, it was not until the 16th century that banker and merchant Alessandro Antinori made the wine from his estates famous in Italy and abroad, travelling from Lyons to Flanders, and from Spain to Algiers.
Wine was to remain the family’s passion and main business activity, so much so that in 1898 the "Fattoria dei Marchesi Lodovico e Piero Antinori" was created by brothers Lodovico and Piero, the sons of Marchese Niccolò – a direct descendent of that other Niccolò who purchased Palazzo Antinori in 1506 and poured his efforts into publicising Tuscan wines around the world and creating fine quality products. For 26 generations the Antinori family have continued to make history.
In 2023, at the beginning of February, Villa Antinori Toscana IGT 2019 was named the third wine in the world, the only Italian wine, in Wine Specator's Top 10 Values 2022: the list of the 10 wines that according to the American magazine represent world excellence in terms of value for money.
