Description
What kind of wine it is
The Um Rosso by Lungarotti is a wine with a brilliant colour and violet hues. This blend combines the solid structure of Merlot with the liveliness of Sangiovese. On the nose, it releases notes of marasca cherry and morello cherry, enriched by hints of preserved fruit, coffee and cocoa. On the palate, it reveals a soft texture, supported by fresh acidity and harmonious tannins, finishing with a long, fruity aftertaste. A warm and well-orchestrated sip, ideal for accompanying game and flavoursome mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
The roots of this wine lie in Umbria, in the Torgiano area. The vineyards are cultivated using the spur-pruned cordon method, aiming for balanced growth. The terroir plays a fundamental role: the medium-textured soils, deep and clayey, give vigour to the Merlot, while the looser soils enhance the freshness of the Sangiovese. This careful agronomic management encourages a clear aromatic definition of the fruit already in the vineyard, fully respecting the vocation of the local landscape.
How it is produced
Harvesting takes place in September to preserve the maximum aromatic purity of the grapes. In the winery, fermentation in steel occurs at a controlled temperature, accompanied by a brief maceration on the skins and daily pump-overs. After eighteen days, racking is carried out. Maturation in barrels lasts about ten months, giving the wine depth. This is followed by a further period of rest which definitively harmonises every structural component before consumption.
History and Curiosities
Um Rosso celebrates the deep bond of the Lungarotti family with Umbria, combining their initials in a name with a strong sense of identity. This wine captivates from the very first glance thanks to its label depicting a Satyr, an artwork taken from an eighteenth-century drawing by Gilles de Ville, now kept at the Wine Museum in Torgiano. A true tribute to the winery's cultural vocation, it has managed to win over the most discerning palates and international critics, as demonstrated by the excellent score of 90/100 awarded by James Suckling.
