Description
What kind of wine it is
Terre Alte is a still dry white wine of great character, capable of expressing the essence of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Produced by Livio Felluga in the Rosazzo area, it is created from a meticulous blend of Friulano, Pinot Bianco and Sauvignon grapes. In the glass, it displays an intense straw yellow colour. Its sensory profile is distinguished by notes of tropical fruit, citrus, acacia flowers and a distinctive mineral hint. On the palate, it is deep, with a rich and savoury structure that is perfectly balanced. The notes of Mediterranean scrub and bergamot enrich a pleasantly long and harmonious finish, ideal for accompanying refined seafood dishes and white meats.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the picturesque hills of Rosazzo, in the province of Udine, an area historically dedicated to viticulture. The vines are cultivated using the Guyot training system, which ensures balanced yields and highly concentrated fruit. The distinctive character of this territory lies in the particular composition of the soils, formed from flysch of marl and sandstone of Eocene origin. This earthy matrix, typical of the region, gives the grapes a pronounced taste definition, enhancing the saline and mineral component that makes the wine's profile vibrant and recognisable.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with a manual harvest, carried out with careful selection of the bunches. After gentle destemming and a brief maceration, the grapes undergo soft pressing. The varieties ferment separately: Pinot Bianco and Sauvignon mature in stainless steel at controlled temperature, while Friulano undergoes fermentation and ageing in small French oak barrels. Subsequently, the different components are blended in the final assemblage. The wine completes its journey by resting for a further nine months in temperature-controlled rooms, achieving optimal balance.
History and Curiosities
Created in 1981, the iconic Terre Alte celebrates the dedication of the Livio Felluga family, boasting six generations of excellence in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The elegance of this wine is born on the hills of Rosazzo, from vines trained using the Guyot method on ancient marl and sandstone soils of Eocene origin. The famous label, characterised by the historic map, holds an oenological masterpiece which, with the 2022 vintage signed by Viorel Flocea, has won over critics by obtaining the prestigious Tre Bicchieri award.
