Description
What kind of wine it is
Livio Felluga's Merlot is a still red wine that expresses the authentic character of the Friulian region. An expression of the Colli Orientali del Friuli, fermented in steel and matured in oak barrels, it presents a vibrant ruby red colour. The bouquet offers an elegant profile, with clear aromas of black cherry, raspberry and plum. The palate is distinguished by a fine tannic texture and an enveloping progression, enriched by subtle floral hints, spicy nuances and persistent balsamic notes.
Where it comes from
The vines grow on the hillside vineyards of Brazzano di Cormòns, in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Cultivated mainly using the Guyot system, they sink their roots into the flysch of marl and sandstone of Eocene origin. This complex geological matrix ensures the plant develops harmoniously, giving the wine structure and aromatic definition. The care of the rows is a family commitment handed down for six generations, enhancing a territory that delivers a vibrant fruity profile, with perfectly integrated spicy components.
How it is produced
The manual harvest at the end of September preserves the integrity of the fruit. A gentle pressing precedes fermentation in stainless steel at a controlled temperature. Maceration on the skins lasts about three weeks, accompanied by frequent pumping over to encourage the extraction of colour and aromas. Maturation continues for twelve months between steel and French oak barrels, followed by an adequate rest in temperature-controlled environments. The result is a juicy sip, characterised by a long, spicy finish.
