Description

What kind of wine it is

Monnalisa Rosso Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is a still red wine that is both organic and vegan, faithfully representing the Montepulciano d’Abruzzo denomination. Made from Montepulciano grapes, it displays a deep ruby red colour and intense aromas of red fruits. On the palate, it offers a balanced sip, ideal for pairing with meat-based dishes and cheeses. Its structure gives it a longevity of five to ten years, expressing itself best after proper decanting.

Where it comes from

The grapes are grown in Abruzzo, specifically in the territories of Terre dei Vestini and Casauria. Production is overseen by Leonardo da Vinci, a company founded in 1961 from the union of thirty farms. The vineyards are cultivated using the pergola system, reflecting the agricultural identity of the area. The entire project stands out for its organic and sustainable approach, focused on environmental protection and enhancing the denomination.

How it is produced

The process begins with a careful manual harvest, aimed at selecting the best bunches directly in the field. Under the technical direction of oenologist Riccardo Pucci, the wine is aged exclusively in stainless steel tanks, a technique chosen to preserve freshness and aromatic definition. This method ensures remarkable cleanliness on the palate, offering a direct style that enhances the natural characteristics of Montepulciano.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1961, Cantine Leonardo da Vinci presents a masterpiece that combines artistic inspiration with oenological excellence. From the historic lands of Terre dei Vestini and Casauria comes this Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC, an authentic expression of 750 hectares of vineyards cultivated using the pergola method. Under the guidance of oenologist Riccardo Pucci, the project embraces a rigorous organic and sustainable philosophy, resulting in a satisfying red wine that is also suitable for vegans. Every sip reveals a profound story of agricultural passion, entirely dedicated to enhancing the value of the land.

Cantine Leonardo da Vinci was established in 1961 upon the initiative of the owners of 30 farms who decided to join forces to tackle the problems brought about by the breakdown of the crop-sharing system. This co-operative gathered its first harvest in 1965, followed by production of the wine and its sale by the barrel. In 1971, the direct marketing of two bottled products began: a white, Collebello, and the Leonardo Chianti. This red is still part of the range of wines produced today. In the following years, encouraged by its success, Cantine Leonardo da Vinci decided to broaden the range of wines, focusing its attention on bottled products in general and on quality wines in particular.

The original headquarters, restructured and enlarged, are still the operative centre today. The winery is situated in the borough of Vinci, just 5 kilometres from the birthplace of the world famous artist and inventor Leonardo.

The co-operative takes its name from the great man, paying homage to the mind of the man who was universally recognised as a genius and to emphasise its deep-rooted bond with the territory, the same bond which Leonardo felt and whose surname is specifically associated with the village where he was born on 15 April 1452.

Today, Cantine Leonardo da Vinci is a pioneering co-operative, innovative and modern, which relies on the work and grape production of its 160 members.
