Description
What type of wine it is
The Chianti Vergine delle Rocce from Cantine Leonardo da Vinci is a still red wine that represents an authentic expression of Tuscany. It is born from a harmonious blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, offering a sip with a distinct fruity and spicy profile. On the nose, notes of cherry and red fruits emerge, accompanied by hints of vanilla, cinnamon, and pepper. Time spent in wood provides a balanced, medium-bodied character. On the palate, it is distinguished by a lively acidity, supported by soft tannins that lead towards a finish of excellent persistence. It is ideal for enhancing structured dishes.
Where it comes from
This Chianti comes to life in the hillside vineyards located between Vinci and Cerreto Guidi. The vines grow at altitudes between forty and one hundred and thirty metres, benefiting from a southern exposure that ensures optimal ripening of the grapes. The roots reach deep into rich Pliocene alluvial deposits, characterised by the presence of shell fragments. These soils give the wine a defined gustatory texture, enhancing its natural freshness and pleasant drinkability.
How it is produced
The harvest precedes soft pressing and maceration on the skins for approximately ten days. Fermentation takes place in steel at a controlled temperature, using short pump-overs and the 'salasso' (bleeding) technique to carefully extract colour and phenolic structure. At the end of the malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for ten months in French and American oak barrels. This careful resting period harmonises the aromatic complexity, ensuring great structure and balance in the final sip.

The original headquarters, restructured and enlarged, are still the operative centre today. The winery is situated in the borough of Vinci, just 5 kilometres from the birthplace of the world famous artist and inventor Leonardo.
The co-operative takes its name from the great man, paying homage to the mind of the man who was universally recognised as a genius and to emphasise its deep-rooted bond with the territory, the same bond which Leonardo felt and whose surname is specifically associated with the village where he was born on 15 April 1452.
Today, Cantine Leonardo da Vinci is a pioneering co-operative, innovative and modern, which relies on the work and grape production of its 160 members. Read more
