Description
What type of wine is it
The Capolavori Chianti Riserva Vergine delle Rocce by Leonardo da Vinci is a red wine that elegantly interprets the character of Tuscany. This blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, combined with other red grapes, reveals a deep purple-red colour in the glass. Its olfactory profile offers clear cherry aromas perfectly integrated with spicy hints of vanilla and cinnamon, while on the palate it reveals an elegant and well-structured texture, with soft tannins that accompany the tasting towards a long and persistent finish. Aged in oak barrels, it is a satisfying red, ideal for pairing with rich pasta dishes with meat ragù and grilled meats.
Where it comes from
The grapes destined for this Chianti Riserva grow on the hills of Vinci, Cerreto Guidi and neighbouring areas, at an altitude of between forty and one hundred and thirty metres. The vineyards enjoy excellent exposure, mainly south-facing. The roots sink into Pliocene alluvial deposits, soils particularly rich in fossil shells.
How it is produced
The harvest takes place between late September and early October, selecting only the bunches that have reached full ripeness for the Chianti Riserva. In the cellar, temperature-controlled fermentation takes place at around twenty-eight degrees, with maceration on the skins for twelve days necessary to extract colour and structure. The wine then completes malolactic fermentation in steel tanks. Finally, it rests for ten months in French and American oak barrels, a meticulous ageing period that defines its spicy notes and the roundness of the sip.

The original headquarters, restructured and enlarged, are still the operative centre today. The winery is situated in the borough of Vinci, just 5 kilometres from the birthplace of the world famous artist and inventor Leonardo.
The co-operative takes its name from the great man, paying homage to the mind of the man who was universally recognised as a genius and to emphasise its deep-rooted bond with the territory, the same bond which Leonardo felt and whose surname is specifically associated with the village where he was born on 15 April 1452.
Today, Cantine Leonardo da Vinci is a pioneering co-operative, innovative and modern, which relies on the work and grape production of its 160 members. Read more
