Description
What kind of wine is it
Le Vigne di Zamò Merlot Vigne 50 Anni is a still organic red that fully enhances the purity of the Merlot grape variety. It displays a deep ruby red colour, heralding a complex bouquet with clear notes of red fruit, leather, cocoa, coffee and spices. On the palate, it is bold yet harmonious, supported by a balanced acidity that brings freshness to the sip. Notes of blackcurrant, black cherry and liquorice blend into an important structure, ensuring remarkable persistence, ideal for pairing with game, grilled red meats and mature cheeses.
Where does it come from
This wine originates in Manzano, in the heart of the Colli Orientali del Friuli. The Le Vigne di Zamò winery manages the vineyards according to the principles of organic farming. The soul of this label lies in the old vines, historic plants with over half a century of life. Their deep root system allows for grapes with extraordinary aromatic concentration, capable of faithfully reflecting the local soil matrix and giving the wine a solid and refined tannic texture.
How is it produced
Production begins with a meticulous selection of grapes from the historic vineyards. Maceration lasts about twenty days and takes place in truncated conical wooden vats, where manual punching down, pumping over and délestage are alternated to best extract the noble components of the fruit. After pressing, the wine matures in barrels for about eighteen months. This meticulous ageing process concludes with a further two years of rest, essential for integrating the structural power with the aromatic richness of the wine.
History and Curiosities
Born in Manzano from historic vineyards, the renowned Merlot DOC Colli Orientali from Le Vigne di Zamò has represented oenological excellence since 1978. The 2021 vintage marks a significant milestone: it is in fact the first certified organic harvest, demonstrating a deep commitment to sustainability. Produced in a limited edition of only 1,912 bottles from vines over 50 years old, this red wine best expresses the essence of the terroir, reaching the highest quality recognised by the Tre Bicchieri award from Gambero Rosso.

The company is fortunate to draw from three different terroirs that give the wines different and unique characters and personalities. The Zamò family has been cultivating the land for centuries: first the grandfather, then the father and finally the sons, all united under the same goal: cultivating the land and making wine as a sign of civilisation and respect for their origins and traditions,
In addition to great white wines, including Friulano and Ribolla Gialla, the company focuses on red wines to maintain the indigenous grape varieties and to pursue new projects and innovations. For years, the Zamò family has been conducting cultivation with sustainability-conscious methods, and in 2021 they obtained the first Certified Organic grape harvest. Read more
