Description
What kind of wine it is
Le Salette Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Pergole Vece Riserva is a structured and elegant red, a faithful expression of the renowned Venetian denomination. Its sensory profile opens with aromas of dark, firm cherries, enriched by an intense balsamic component reminiscent of liquorice, eucalyptus, and dried rosemary. On the palate, the powerful yet silky tannins blend with notes of coffee and ginger, creating a perfect balance that invites long ageing. This wine is at its best when paired with roast meats and mature cheeses such as Parmigiano, and also proves ideal as a meditation wine.
Where it comes from
The origin of this wine lies in the historic area of Amarone della Valpolicella Classico. It is crafted from a skilful blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Oseleta, and Rondinella, varieties cultivated using the traditional pergola system. The grapes are meticulously selected from the estate’s finest vineyards located between Fumane and Sant’Ambrogio, including prestigious crus such as Conca d’Oro and Monte Masua. This careful selection allows Le Salette to obtain raw material with a deep aromatic concentration, essential for defining the complex character and structure that distinguish the Riserva type.
How it is produced
The production process begins with the manual harvesting of the best bunches, which are then subjected to a natural drying process in the fruit loft for about five months. During this phase, natural ventilation causes the grapes to lose half their weight, ensuring a significant increase in sugar concentration. Subsequently, vinification is completed with at least thirty months of ageing in wooden barrels, followed by further resting before release. This rigorous process builds a solid sensory architecture, giving the wine an exceptional capacity for evolution over time.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1800, the Le Salette winery celebrates its tradition with the Pergole Vece Riserva, created from hand-picked grapes from the finest crus of Valpolicella. The natural drying process lasting five months concentrates the aromas and sugars, preparing the wine for a 30-month ageing in barriques, which imparts extraordinary elegance. Awarded 94 points by James Suckling, this masterpiece promises longevity of over 30 years, offering a meditative experience to those patient enough to await its evolution in the cellar.

Theirs too is a beautiful story, which tells about decades of faithful farming and love for the land, and, above all, a passion for making wine. Indeed, for generations the Scamperle family has dedicated itself to growing grapes, and, over the years, to gradually increasing the number of grapevines. The vineyards have grown slowly and carefully, always respecting the local technique, which is sensitive to nature and follows its rhythm to bring out the originality and characteristics of the grapes.
The enterprise, Le Salette, has never stopped developing their product, basing the essence of their life and activity, their unflagging quest, on patient research. And their goal has always been quality, a goal shared by the entire family. Today the family owns twenty cultivated hectares, situated among the most renowned places of the Valpolicella Classica DOC area: Fumane Cà Carnocchio, I Progni e Cà Melchiori, Sant'Ambrogio Conca D'Oro, and San Floriano Monte Masua. The type of grapes produced are the most classical types of the zone: Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Oseleta, a small quantity of Molinara, and Croatina.
In a family business you never stop working; however, there is always time for a friend who drops in for a visit. The "Casa Scamperle" and "Le Salette" - have their doors always open: to excellence and to anyone who cares to pay them a visit. Read more
