Description
What kind of wine it is
Paleo Rosso is an elegant red from Tuscany that expresses the pure character of Cabernet Franc. To the eye, it appears a deep, compact ruby red, opening up to a bouquet of wild berries, dried violets and dark spices, joined by hints of mint, tobacco and Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, it is warm and enveloping, supported by polished tannins and well-balanced freshness. A vibrant savouriness makes it ideal for pairing with meat dishes, game and cheeses, ensuring a harmonious sip, especially after adequate oxygenation in a decanter.
Where it comes from
This renowned red originates in the Bolgheri area, in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci. It represents the flagship label of the Le Macchiole winery, reflecting the winemaking soul of the Tuscan coast. Originally created as a Bordeaux blend, it later evolved to highlight the characteristics of a single grape variety. The name, derived from a local wild herb, underlines its strong territorial identity. Careful management of the vines, cultivated using spur-pruned cordon and Guyot methods, ensures grapes of the highest quality, capable of imparting an unmistakable Mediterranean style to the wine.
How it is produced
The harvest is carefully carried out during the third week of September. Vinification involves fermentation and maceration in cement vats for twenty-five days, ensuring excellent structural extraction. The wine then matures for eighteen months in new barrels, a crucial stage that consolidates its smoothness and broadens its aromatic spectrum. Thanks to an excellent potential for ageing, it expresses its utmost elegance when served between sixteen and eighteen degrees, revealing an intense, persistent and rigorous flavour profile.
History and Curiosities
Born in 1989 as a Bordeaux blend, the renowned Paleo Rosso is the flagship label of the Le Macchiole winery. Becoming a pure Cabernet Franc from 2001 onwards, this wine embodies the identity of Bolgheri, taking its name from a wild herb found on the Tuscan coast. The 2022 vintage, aged for eighteen months in new barriques, offers a warm and enveloping sip with velvety tannins, awarded 96 points by Robert Parker. A Tuscan masterpiece capable of combining splendid freshness with perfectly balanced savouriness.
