Description
What kind of wine is it
Laporte Pouilly-Fumé Le Vigne de Beaussoppet from Domaine Laporte is an organic white wine from the Loire, an authentic expression of Sauvignon Blanc. Hailing from the prestigious Pouilly-Fumé area, it appears in the glass with a brilliant golden colour, complex and well-balanced. The aromatic bouquet opens with hints of white flowers, enriched by refined toasted notes and subtle touches of vanilla. On the palate, it reveals lively freshness, accompanied by pleasant hints of exotic fruit, finishing the tasting with a savoury and very elegant finish. The vinification process involves the use of steel, oak and amphora.
Where does it come from
This wine originates from a historic vineyard whose roots can be traced back to the late fifteenth century. The grapes come from old vines grown in a plot of Domaine Laporte of just over one hectare. The roots delve into an exceptional terroir, characterised by clay, Kimmeridgian marl, marine fossils and flint. It is precisely this unique soil composition that imparts the wine with its characteristic minerality, shaping a clear aromatic profile and supporting the defined structure that distinguishes this renowned winegrowing area.
How is it produced
Vinification begins with careful manual harvesting, followed by gentle pressing and cold settling. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature and occurs in stainless steel tanks, amphorae and oak barrels, avoiding malolactic fermentation to preserve the natural tension of the fruit. Subsequently, the wine matures for nine months on its lees, with regular bâtonnage to enhance volume and precision on the palate. The production process concludes with further ageing in the bottle.
History and Curiosities
Domaine Laporte brings to life this elegant Pouilly-Fumé AOC, celebrating a family winemaking tradition dating back to 1850. The old vines of the historic La Vigne de Beaussoppet vineyard grow on exceptional soils, documented since 1492 and composed of Kimmeridgian marl, marine fossils and flint. To enhance its complex aromatic breadth, meticulous vinification combines steel with wood and amphora. Careful ageing on the lees with bâtonnage gives the sip perfect balance, awarded 92 points by James Suckling for the 2023 vintage.
