Description

What kind of wine it is

The Trentino Riesling by La Vis is a still, dry white wine made from Rhine Riesling grapes, vinified in steel and matured on the lees, characterised by a fresh and structured style. In the glass, it appears straw yellow with greenish highlights. The clean aromatic profile reveals notes of candied fruit, ripe peach and carob, which develop into hints of flint with oxygenation. On the palate, it offers a fruity and savoury taste, supported by a vibrant acidic tension leading to a harmonious finish. This precision makes it ideal for enhancing fish starters, herb omelettes and delicate white meats.

Where it comes from

The grapes grow in the Lower Cembra Valley, along the Avisio stream, in a context of heroic viticulture. The vineyards occupy steep terraced slopes facing south, situated at over five hundred and fifty metres above sea level. The Alpine climate of Trentino, with its strong temperature variations tempered by the breezes from Lake Garda, favours the optimal development of the bunches. The vines sink their roots into fluvio-glacial porphyritic soils, deep and well-drained. This sandy-loam matrix, rich in dolomitic limestone and quartz, gives the wine a distinctive savoury and mineral character, a true reflection of the territory.

How it is produced

The process begins at the end of September with the manual harvesting of the grapes. In the winery, gentle pressing is carried out in an inert atmosphere, essential to protect the must from oxidative stress. Static cold settling ensures ideal clarity before alcoholic fermentation, which takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks to preserve the aromatic integrity of the Rhine Riesling. The wine then undergoes maturation on the lees for six months, a key stage to provide greater flavour persistence and a solid structural framework.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1948, the La Vis cooperative winery brings together the passion of eight hundred winegrowers in a true example of heroic viticulture. Along the banks of the Avisio stream, in the lower Val di Cembra, the vines grow on steep terraces where, following the principle of “the right grape variety in the right place”, Riesling Renano finds its fullest expression on deep porphyritic soils. The marked Alpine temperature variations and the influence of Lake Garda create a unique microclimate, giving the wine a rare character that transcends the individual vintage.

The winery bears a name and logo that reflect its links with the land and its ancient wine-making traditions. Like the town it lies in, it takes its name from the Avisio River, cascading from the surrounding peaks with all the energy of the spectacular natural landscape that Vis, the Latin word for strength that forms part of that name, so aptly describes.

The logo takes inspiration from a decorative element that has always been present in the company and bears a highly symbolic value: a wooden bas-relief celebrating the founding of the winery in 1948 which represents the coats of arms of the municipalities of Lavis, Giovo and Meano, the very first protagonists in the association’s establishment. A timeless brand of great strength that puts the Winery and its founding values at the centre: cooperation, history and the bond with the territory.

The Lavis wine-makers cooperative traces its origins to 1850, when the Cembran family built the initial core of the current production unit. It was officially formed in 1948 by 14 independent wine-makers and grew in the years that followed, due partly to acquisitions of other producers, including mergers with the Salorno Cooperative of South Tyrol in 1969 and Cantina Sociale di Cembra in 2003.
