Description
What kind of wine it is
Kurtatsch Alto Adige Merlot Riserva Brenntal is a still red wine that embodies the essence of Alto Adige. Made from Merlot grapes, it stands out for its deep, intense garnet red colour. Its aromatic profile weaves together notes of wild herbs, lingonberry, blackberry, cocoa and green tea. On the palate, it expresses a fresh, vibrant minerality, supported by fine, enveloping tannins. The tasting finishes with a savoury persistence, enriched by elegant hints of undergrowth, mushrooms and truffle.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the Brenntal vineyard, located on the first hill of Cortaccia. The area lies at the foot of a limestone massif that promotes heat accumulation, ensuring optimal ripening of the grapes. The terroir boasts limestone soils with porphyry gravel, clay and silt, providing perfect natural drainage. The subsoil is nourished by underground veins of mineral-rich water. In this particular Alpine context, the Merlot develops a structural balance and a clear, rigorous density.
How it is produced
The careful process by Kurtatsch involves fermentation at a controlled temperature in a rotofermenter, a technique aimed at optimising extraction and aromatic clarity. The wine then matures for fifteen months in oak barrels from the forests of Nevers, Allier and Jupille, stabilising its delicate tannic structure. The prolonged contact with fine lees softens the fruity component, giving a creamy texture and enriching the flavour profile with complex and enveloping autumnal nuances.
