Description
What kind of wine it is
Vintage Tunina by Jermann is a still white wine from Friuli-Venezia Giulia, a noble expression of Venezia Giulia. It is born from a skilful blend of Chardonnay, Malvasia Bianca, Ribolla Gialla and Sauvignon, revealing in the glass a bright straw yellow colour with clear golden highlights. The bouquet is broad and defined, enriched by persistent hints of honey and fresh wildflowers. On the palate, it is dry, smooth and supported by a full body that prolongs its harmonious taste. Its solid and enveloping structure makes it ideal for accompanying first courses with truffle, refined baked fish dishes, white meats and cheeses.
Where it comes from
The roots of this white wine lie in Dolegna del Collio, in a hilly area of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The vineyards, facing south-west and north-east, take root in soils of Eocene origin formed by marl and sandstone. This peculiar rocky substrate generates the characteristic ponca, a natural element that gives the wine aromatic intensity and structural solidity. The vines are trained using the Guyot-Cappuccina system, with a high density of vines and calibrated yields to encourage maximum concentration of aromas. The name of the wine is a tribute to local history: it is dedicated to Antonia, known as Tunina, the former owner of the estate and a renowned Venetian housekeeper.
How it is produced
The processing of the grapes begins with a split fermentation, carried out partly in wooden barrels and partly in stainless steel tanks. This same division guides the maturation phase: the wine rests for nine months between wooden barrels and steel, gradually acquiring roundness and complexity. After this stage, the wine undergoes bottle ageing for about seven months. The result is a harmonious and dry sip, capable of maintaining a prolonged persistence over time.
History and Curiosities
The Vintage Tunina is the iconic label of Jermann, an extraordinary meditation wine created in 1975 that has marked the history of Italian oenology. Its fascinating name pays homage to the vineyard's former owner, Antonia, known as Tunina, the Venetian housekeeper loved by Casanova. This majestic Friulian blend, celebrated with 96 points from James Suckling, offers a profound tasting experience: a harmonious and long-lived white that enchants the senses thanks to its exceptionally full body, endless persistence, and refined hints of honey.
