Description
What kind of wine it is
Jermann Sauvignon is a still white wine with a bright straw yellow colour and subtle greenish highlights. Made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, it fully expresses the characteristics of the Venezia Giulia denomination. On the nose, it offers an intense profile, characterised by notes of elderflower, gooseberry and grapefruit, with hints of meadow grass and blood orange. On the palate, it is dry and balanced, revealing a pleasant lively acidity and a delicate creaminess that lead to a fruity and spicy finish. It pairs harmoniously with seafood risottos, shellfish, poultry and cheeses.
Where it comes from
The grapes grow in the vineyards of Dolegna del Collio, an area renowned for its high winemaking vocation. The soil is characterised by the typical ponca, a composition of marl and sandstone from the Eocene flysch formation. This geological profile gives the wine a taut structure and precise mineral sensations. The south-west and north-west exposures ensure gradual ripening, which defines a clear aromatic profile. Jermann cultivates these lands by enhancing the peculiarities of the territory to offer an authentic interpretation of the variety.
How it is produced
The process begins with a brief maceration of about six hours of the crushed grapes in the must, essential for extracting the aromatic potential while maintaining a lean profile. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks, preserving the olfactory purity and freshness of the fruit. Ageing continues in steel, a deliberate choice to enhance varietal clarity and avoid oxidative influences. This method ensures a balanced sip, in which the well-integrated acidity combines with a clear, persistent finish.
History and Curiosities
Since 1881, the Jermann family has passionately dedicated itself to the art of winemaking in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. This excellent Sauvignon Venezia Giulia IGT embodies their commitment and is born among the hills of Collio. Here, the vines sink their roots into the typical ponca, a marl and sandstone soil that gives the wine extraordinary freshness and unmistakable mineral notes. The result of careful vinification in steel, this white combines fruity aromas with elegant persistence, making every sip an experience of absolute gustatory refinement.
