Description
What kind of wine it is
Blau & Blau by Jermann precisely expresses the character of the Trevenezie region. This blend of Franconia and Pinot Noir displays an intense ruby red colour, hinting at a vinous and harmonious profile. Distinct herbaceous notes and hints of undergrowth emerge clearly on the nose. On the palate, it is dry, elegant, and well-structured, ensuring ideal balance. Its structure makes it perfect for Central European cuisine, pairing beautifully with dishes such as smoked pork loin with horseradish, as well as flavourful first courses and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
The roots of this red wine lie in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, in the Dolegna del Collio area. The vineyards benefit from a favourable south-west exposure and grow on well-defined soils. These are shallow soils originating from the Eocene relief of Monte Fortino, whose geological formation has led to the spread of colluvial materials. This unique environmental context gives the grapes a distinct territorial signature, helping to develop the herbaceous and mineral component that defines the aromatic structure of the cuvée.
How it is produced
The creation of this red follows a meticulous oenological process, designed to best enhance the grapes. After vinification, the key stage for its complexity is the sixteen-month maturation, carried out in French oak barrels. This ageing smooths the tannic texture and enriches the structure, bringing the wine to perfect harmony. To fully appreciate its aromatic nuances, it is recommended to decant for one hour, serving the wine at an ideal temperature between sixteen and eighteen degrees Celsius.
History and Curiosities
The Jermann Blau & Blau 2022 encapsulates a unique story, linked to the affection for the puppy Truman, whose photo with Sylvia appears in a well-known 2006 book dedicated to Boston Terriers. This charming anecdote is combined with the excellence of a Trevenezie IGT produced from Franconia and Pinot Noir grapes. Thanks to 16 months of ageing in French oak barriques, this still red wine acquires an elegant and dry character, standing out for its vinous and enveloping bouquet with notes of undergrowth, perfect for enhancing the flavours of Central European cuisine.
