Description

What kind of wine it is

The Trento Michei 823 Brut sparkling wine is a white produced using the Traditional Method by Hofstatter. Made from Pinot Noir grapes, this brut stands out for its refined style and distinctly dry flavour profile. The extended ageing on the lees imparts structure and complexity, evident in its elegant and persistent perlage. On the palate, it reveals lively notes of white-fleshed fruit and citrus, harmoniously intertwined with hints of fresh bread, offering a clean and balanced finish.

Where it comes from

This sparkling wine hails from Trentino Alto Adige, in the heart of the Trento area. The Pinot Noir grapes are grown at Maso Michei, nestled in a truly high-altitude Alpine setting. The vineyards, cultivated at 850 metres above sea level, represent a crucial environmental factor, imparting great freshness and defining the wine’s taut profile. This pronounced mountain character encourages slow and ideal ripening, faithfully reflecting the authentic character of the region.

How it is produced

The grapes are hand-harvested in mid-September, followed by gentle pressing. The must is clarified to remove cloudy particles before fermentation at a controlled temperature. The following spring, selected yeasts are added to the base wine to initiate the second fermentation in the bottle, as required by the Traditional Method. After the prise de mousse, the brut undergoes a patient 60-month maturation on fine lees, thus developing its full structural and aromatic complexity.

History and Curiosities

Born amidst the enchanting Alpine landscapes of Trentino, this prestigious sparkling wine embodies the pioneering spirit of the Hofstätter family, active since 1907. Made exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes harvested at an altitude of 850 metres, this excellent Traditional Method expresses all the vigour of the mountains. The meticulous secondary fermentation and patient ageing for 60 months on the lees give it an elegant and persistent perlage. The result is an exceptional Trento DOC brut with great structure, featuring notes of citrus, white fruit and bread crust.

The wisdom of generations. The drive to continuously create something new together. Our family winery’s story stretches back to the 19th century. Anticipating the future, just like Paolo Foradori. He once coins the term "Vigna" – marking the dawn of single-vineyard classification in Alto Adige. Pioneering spirit is deeply ingrained in our family heritage. Today, it is led by Martin and Beatrix Foradori Hofstätter, supported by the next generation: Niklas and Emma.

We uphold the highest standards every single day. In the vineyard, this means nurturing our vines through gentle pruning and the use of cover crops to enhance their strength. In the wine cellar, innovation meets tradition, as we age our wines in both classic wooden barrels and modern concrete vats. Cutting-edge cellar technology also plays an essential role in ensuring the quality of our wines.
