Description
What kind of wine it is
J. Charpentier Champagne Tradition Brut is an elegant Traditional Method sparkling wine that fully expresses the vibrant character of the Champagne region. In the glass, it displays a golden yellow colour with greenish highlights, enhanced by a fine and persistent perlage. On the nose, it opens with fresh notes of exotic fruit and candied citrus, enriched by delicate toasted nuances. On the palate, it is rounded and fruity, supported by well-integrated freshness and a pleasant minerality. The creamy texture accompanies the sip towards a persistent finish, characterised by savoury nuances and a slight bitter note that gives great balance to the tasting experience.
Where it comes from
Production takes place in France, in the Vallée de la Marne, a region historically dedicated to viticulture. The vineyards are located in the commune of Villers-sous-Châtillon, where the terroir offers ideal conditions for growing Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The J. Charpentier winery, active for five generations, skilfully enhances the natural characteristics of these lands. The specific microclimate gives the grapes an intense aromatic expression, defining the fruity and lively style typical of this producer, always faithful to the true essence of Champagne.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation. The base wine is then harmoniously blended with reserve wines to ensure consistent quality and aromatic depth. The secondary fermentation takes place according to the principles of the Traditional Method, with meticulous ageing on the lees lasting from eighteen to twenty-four months. This stage is essential to achieve the typical smoothness on the palate. Part of the wine also matures in oak barrels, a process that adds structure and enriches the organoleptic profile with elegant toasted notes.
History and Curiosities
For five generations, the J. Charpentier family has cultivated excellence in the prestigious Vallée de la Marne. Today, the house is led by Jean-Marc who, drawing on the valuable advice of his father Jacky, signs the elegant Champagne Tradition Brut by skilfully blending Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes from two different vintages. Produced in Villers-sous-Châtillon and awarded prestigious accolades by the Hachette guide, this wine is crafted following the strict rules of the Traditional Method. Each glass expresses a deep connection with the land, offering a harmonious and highly charming tasting experience.

The union of Pierre and Marguerite Charpentier bore three sons. Marcellin, who took over from his father in 1946 began developing the champagne in 1954 with Marcellin's brand Charpentier. He and his wife, Solange, had three children, including Jacky, born in 1949. In 1960, Marcellin died prematurely and Solange continued her husband's work with Jacky and his brothers.
1983 saw the first expansion of the cellar and in 1987 a great technological innovation was introduced: thermoregulation. At that time very few winemakers there were equipped with this.
There was further extension in 1997 with diversification of the vinification methods using 200L barrels along with setting up several French oak tanks.
Claudine Charpentier and Jacky had two sons, Jean Marc, the eldest, was born in 1979 and also Marie-Pierre, born in 1988. After obtaining high school, Jean Marc received his BTS Viticulture and Enology. His passion for wine encouraged him to take the National diploma in Oenology (DNO) and after two years he had a wine and marketing masters. Read more
