Description
What kind of wine it is
J. Charpentier Brut Reserve Champagne is an elegant sparkling wine produced using the Traditional Method. This blend combines the structure of Pinot Noir with the freshness of Pinot Meunier, revealing a bright straw yellow colour enlivened by a fine and persistent perlage. On the nose, the Champagne offers a floral bouquet enriched with green-fleshed fruits, citrus notes, spices and hints of pastry. On the palate, it is linear, crisp and mineral, finishing harmoniously with refreshing mint nuances. Served at 8°C, it is at its best when paired with aperitifs, shellfish, fish such as salmon or halibut, and Japanese cuisine specialities.
Where it comes from
The production of J. Charpentier Champagne takes place between the Vallée de la Marne and the Montagne de Reims. The family estate, founded in 1920, has passed down a deep respect for the environment and nature through five generations. The vines take root in chalky soils, a fundamental geological feature that gives the wine its lively minerality. The agricultural approach is based on minimal intervention to reflect the authentic expression of the terroir. The ongoing commitment to sustainability is ensured by the HVE certification for high environmental value and by winemaking practices compatible with a vegan diet.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled vats, followed by malolactic fermentation. The careful blending incorporates reserve wines from different vintages, with a portion carefully matured in fine oak barrels. The prise de mousse is carried out strictly using the Traditional Method, followed by a long and restful ageing in the cellar lasting 30-36 months. This extended period defines the wine’s complex aromatic profile, enriches its structure and imparts a harmonious and particularly pleasant balance on the palate.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1920 in the Vallée de la Marne, the family-run J. Charpentier winery has passed down a deep passion for excellence through five generations. The refined Champagne Brut Réserve, certified for its high environmental value and as vegan, is an elegant blend that combines the intensity of Pinot Meunier with the structure of Pinot Noir. Thanks to a slow ageing process of 30-36 months and the use of fine reserve wines aged in oak, this artisanal cuvée harmoniously expresses all the extraordinary mineral richness typical of the region's chalky soils.

The union of Pierre and Marguerite Charpentier bore three sons. Marcellin, who took over from his father in 1946 began developing the champagne in 1954 with Marcellin's brand Charpentier. He and his wife, Solange, had three children, including Jacky, born in 1949. In 1960, Marcellin died prematurely and Solange continued her husband's work with Jacky and his brothers.
1983 saw the first expansion of the cellar and in 1987 a great technological innovation was introduced: thermoregulation. At that time very few winemakers there were equipped with this.
There was further extension in 1997 with diversification of the vinification methods using 200L barrels along with setting up several French oak tanks.
Claudine Charpentier and Jacky had two sons, Jean Marc, the eldest, was born in 1979 and also Marie-Pierre, born in 1988. After obtaining high school, Jean Marc received his BTS Viticulture and Enology. His passion for wine encouraged him to take the National diploma in Oenology (DNO) and after two years he had a wine and marketing masters. Read more
