Description

What kind of wine it is

Colli del Mancuso Cirò Classico Superiore Riserva is a red wine by Ippolito 1845, created to enhance the Gaglioppo, an indigenous grape variety of the region. It presents a vibrant ruby red colour, while the bouquet reveals elegant aromas of morello cherry, plum, spices and vanilla. On the palate, it offers a full and smooth flavour, supported by a fine tannic structure. It is recommended to let it breathe for about an hour before serving, making it the ideal pairing for red meats, braised dishes and mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

This wine originates in Calabria, in the heart of Cirò Marina, in the province of Crotone. The grapes are grown on the slopes of the Colli del Mancuso wine region, where the microclimate encourages a slow and steady ripening of the bunches. Harvesting takes place in the second half of October, ensuring a selective and high-quality pick. The result is an authentic expression of Cirò, endowed with a significant structure designed to ensure excellent longevity.

How it is produced

After a rigorous selection of the bunches, vinification involves a long maceration on the skins, essential for extracting colour and tannic components. The wine matures for at least twelve months in oak barrels, where it gains further depth and roundness. The process concludes with a slow refinement in the bottle, for a total period of thirty-six months. The result is a complex and harmonious red, perfect to serve at a temperature between sixteen and eighteen degrees.

History and Curiosities

Produced in the heart of Calabria, the excellent Cirò DOC Classico Superiore Riserva by Ippolito 1845 enhances the authenticity of 100% Gaglioppo grapes. Sourced from the vineyards of Colli del Mancuso, the wine matures on the skins and rests for 12 months in oak barrels, completing its ageing in the bottle for a total period of 36 months. This red reveals intense aromas of morello cherry, plum and vanilla. Thanks to a longevity of 5-10 years, it offers a full, smooth and finely tannic sip, ensuring an elegant and enveloping sensory experience.

It was in 1845 when Vincenzo Ippolito embellished his initials on the country house in the Cirò marina between vineyards, olive groves and orange trees. In a very varied agriculture, the vines begin to play an important role, although the wine consumption was strictly local. With more than 160 years of history, Ippolito Winery is the oldest winery in Calabria. Located in the historic center of Cirò Marina, the heart of Calabrian viticulture, the farm includes an estate of over 100 hectares, distributed between gentle hills and sunny plains close to the Ionian Sea, located in the classical Cirò area. The corporate mission has always been the recovery and valorisation of native grape varieties such as Gaglioppo, White Greek, Calabrian and lastly the Sheep. Through constant research, the use of innovative techniques, direct control of all production processes, we seek in our wines elegance, exclusivity and identity with their own territory. A fascinating challenge faced in the sign of absolute quality. Today, the company boasts 14 labels on 4 continents, a fact that more than any other confirms a significant entrepreneurial dynamism.
