Description
What kind of wine it is
Marroneto Brunello di Montalcino is a classic-profile Tuscan red wine made from Sangiovese grapes. It displays a garnet colour with ruby highlights, heralding a full-bodied and structured palate. On tasting, it reveals a silky tannic texture, balanced by vibrant freshness. The bouquet weaves together notes of Mediterranean scrub, cherry, blood orange and lavender, finishing with a long balsamic aftertaste. This red boasts remarkable longevity and is the ideal pairing for roast meats, game and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
The vineyards of Il Marroneto winery are located on the northern slope of Montalcino, in an area with a particularly cool climate. The vines grow at around four hundred metres above sea level, sinking their roots into soils composed of marine sand mixed with minerals. This geological matrix enriches the wine with a pronounced savouriness and deep mineral accents. Such environmental conditions favour balanced grape development, ensuring the lively acidity and structural precision that define its distinctive character.
How it is produced
Vinification follows a low-intervention approach, starting in stainless steel tanks. Fermentation is carried out by indigenous yeasts at high temperatures, a technique aimed at preserving the integrity of the aromas. To optimise aromatic extraction, regular pump-overs are performed. The long ageing process takes place entirely in large Slavonian oak casks, encouraging slow and harmonious maturation. This method preserves the vitality of the fruit, developing complexity without allowing woody notes to dominate.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1974 in Montalcino, Il Marroneto by Alessandro Mori champions traditional low-intervention winemaking. The 2020 vintage, made from Sangiovese grapes grown on mineral-rich marine sands, ferments with indigenous yeasts, releasing extraordinary vitality. The meticulous ageing for 45 months in Slavonian oak barrels shapes a Brunello with a classic and elegant profile. Produced in 36,139 bottles, this masterpiece guarantees incredible longevity, maintaining a fresh and fragrant sip that evolves beautifully over time.

So 'playing with wine' becomes more than a game: it is a deep passion, a thread that guides Alessandro's choices. He decided, in the 1990s, to expand the wine cellar of Il Marroneto, realising an idea that eschews logic dictated by aesthetics tout-court but is firmly bound to those principles, in reality very simple and immediate, that the 'good practice' of making wine imposes.
