Description
What kind of wine it is
The Champagne Grand Cru Leonard Extra Brut Rosé Henriet-Bazin is a refined wine from the Montagne de Reims. This Grand Cru rosé is created from a harmonious blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, to which estate-produced red wine is added. The inclusion of reserve wines aged in barrels enriches its organoleptic profile. Crafted strictly according to the Traditional Method, it boasts a silky effervescence. On the nose and palate, lively red fruit notes stand out, intertwined with a pronounced chalky minerality. The balance of this Extra Brut superbly enhances shellfish, fish, and sushi.
Where it comes from
Its origin lies in the heart of Champagne, in the Montagne de Reims area, where Henriet-Bazin has cultivated Grand Cru vineyards in Verzenay and Verzy since 1890. The grapes grow on north-east facing slopes, nourished by a pure chalk subsoil enriched with clayey silts. Viticulture is carried out with respect for the environment through natural grassing and controlled ploughing. This meticulous approach gives the grapes extraordinary aromatic precision, preserving the acidic tension essential for freshness and the identity of the terroir in the glass.
How it is produced
The manual harvest gathers the grapes at perfect ripeness, using only the first pressing for the process. After cold settling and malolactic fermentation, the base wine rests for nine months in enamelled tanks. The final blend beautifully integrates reserve wines in solera, imparting rare complexity. The prise de mousse faithfully follows the Traditional Method, preceding maturation on the lees in bottle for at least three years. Disgorgement, six months before release, seals the structure of a powerful yet extremely delicate glass.
History and Curiosities
The exceptional Champagne Grand Cru Léonard Rosé originates from the prestigious vineyards of the Henriet-Bazin maison, located between Verzenay and Verzy. Produced with hand-picked grapes, this cuvée celebrates craftsmanship by skilfully blending Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Its distinctive character comes from the use of 30% solera reserve wines started in 1968. Enriched with estate-vinified red wine and matured for three years on the lees, this Extra Brut offers a seductive creamy effervescence, delicate notes of raspberry and a vibrant chalky minerality.

His son Robert Henriet took over in 1830 and kept ont working. Driven by the enthusiasm for Champagne de Vignerons, he developed his clientele through fairs in Paris, Lille and Lyon.
In 1962 Daniel Henriet, grandson of the founder, was 16 years old when he decided to take over and study wine before joining his brothers on the family estate. A few years later he met Mademoiselle Micheline Bazin, daughter of winegrowers from Villers-Marmery whom he married in 1968. The union of their two families gave birth to Champagne Henriet-Bazin … I would not arrive until a few years later.
After spending my childhood in my father’s boots, I joined the house in 1991 and decided to keep all of my harvest for vinification.
Respect for nature, the land, the vines, our wines and our customers Respect is knowing how to listen. And for over 15 years now, we have been listening to the whispers of nature and have come to understand it better. Abandonment of weedkillers, respect for insects, grassing of our vines, sowing of plants to replace fertilizers, work in harmony with the lunar cycles … Read more
