Description
What kind of wine it is
Guado al Tasso Bolgheri Vermentino is a Tuscan white wine that elegantly balances freshness and minerality. It appears a straw yellow colour with greenish highlights, while the nose releases fragrant notes of citrus, white flowers and aromatic herbs, enriched by hints of passion fruit. On the palate, it is savoury and smooth, with a long, pleasantly citrusy finish. It is the ideal accompaniment for seafood dishes and fried foods, particularly enhancing prawn tempura, but is also excellent as an aperitif or paired with fresh cheeses.
Where it comes from
It originates on the Maremma coast, in the renowned Bolgheri amphitheatre where the Guado al Tasso estate operates. The temperate climate is constantly moderated by sea breezes, which ensure excellent sunlight and prevent excessive summer heat, favouring the optimal ripening of Vermentino. The alluvial soils range from silty-sandy to sandy textures, combined with pebbles, clay and stones. This complex matrix of the Bolgheri amphitheatre soils gives the wine a pronounced saline tension and great palate clarity, faithfully reflecting the identity of the Bolgheri territory.
How it is produced
Harvesting is carried out by dividing the vineyards into parcels according to the ripeness of the grapes. In the winery, the grapes undergo a gentle destemming and soft pressing to extract a pure must, which is then fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. At the end of this phase, the best lots are carefully selected to create a balanced and harmonious blend. The wine matures for several months in steel to preserve its aromatic precision before bottling, ultimately revealing a clear saline and citrus varietal expression.

The noble Della Gherardesca family began practicing viticulture in the late 1600’s on their land in Bolgheri, but things really began to change under the guidance of Guido Alberto Della Gherardesca (1780-1854). He was a passionate about viticulture. He was appointed majordomo of Grand Duke Leopold II and then dedicated himself to enology in his family’s land in Maremma. In the 1930’s, the property was inherited by Carlotta Della Gherardesca Antinori (Piero Antinori’s mother) and her sister who was married to Mario Incisa Della Rocchetta (who received the nearby Tenuta San Guido).
