Description
What kind of wine it is
Grattamacco L’Alberello is an organic red that expresses the Tuscan region through a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The bouquet combines notes of cherry, mulberry and blackcurrant with hints of graphite, leather, coffee, cigar box and refined vegetal nuances. On the palate, it is glyceric and enveloping, supported by a solid structure and well-integrated silky tannins. The sip stands out for its warmth and long persistence, perfectly consistent with the initial aromas.
Where it comes from
The wine originates in Castagneto Carducci, at the heart of the Bolgheri wine region. The vineyards are cultivated using the goblet training system, an agronomic choice that defines the project’s identity through manual care and precise spacing between the vines. The roots delve into sandy-clay soils with a moderate limestone content, a composition that enhances aromatic clarity and a well-defined structural texture. Grattamacco is a historic estate, instrumental in promoting the value of the Tuscan region.
How it is produced
Production limits yields to a maximum of one kilogram of grapes per branch, in order to concentrate the fruit’s quality. After manual harvesting, alcoholic fermentation takes place in small wooden conical vats, encouraging prolonged maceration. This is followed by malolactic fermentation with maturation in barrels for eighteen months, during which the wine gains stability and breadth. The production cycle concludes with bottle ageing for at least twelve months, essential for harmonising the structural components.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1977, Grattamacco is a historic winery, a pioneer in enhancing the Bolgheri region. L’Alberello 2022 pays tribute to the vine training system of the same name: here, the vines are tended entirely by hand, with a strict yield of just one kilogram of grapes per plant to maximise quality. Created by oenologists Luca Marrone and Maurizio Castelli, this organic red wine, awarded 93 points by James Suckling and the Tre Bicchieri by Gambero Rosso, elegantly expresses the essence of the prestigious Tuscan terroir.
