Description

Wine profile

Girlan's Flora Pinot Bianco Riserva is a still white wine with the Alto Adige designation. Produced from Pinot Blanc grapes and aged in large oak barrels, it reveals aromas of pineapple, peach and aromatic herbs, enriched by delicate buttery notes. On the palate, it proves dense and juicy, balanced by a vibrant acidity and a persistent mineral finish. Its elegant roundness perfectly enhances delicate risottos and seafood main courses.

Origin

The grapes come from selected plots in Cornaiano and on Monte di Appiano, among the Oltradige hills, at altitudes between 450 and 550 metres. The morainic soils on a volcanic matrix give the wine fullness and a distinct fruity richness. The parcels located at higher altitudes, characterised by silty-clay soils of calcareous origin, instead guarantee vigour, structure and a clear savoury imprint.

Production process

After manual harvesting, the whole bunches undergo soft pressing followed by clarification through natural sedimentation. Fermentation takes place in large French oak barrels, accompanied by partial malolactic fermentation. The wine ages for twelve months on the fine lees within the same barrels, before resting for six months in stainless steel tanks and concluding the cycle with further refinement in the bottle.

History and curiosities

Founded in 1923, Cantina Girlan expresses the excellence of the Alto Adige DOC through the Flora Pinot Bianco Riserva 2022. This sophisticated wine is born from hand-picked grapes between Cornaiano and Appiano, where the calcareous and morainic soils, located between 450 and 550 metres above sea level, bestow a vibrant freshness. The meticulous production process involves a patient ageing on the fine lees in large French oak barrels, enriching the palate with a sublime creaminess. Awarded 94 points by Luca Maroni, this white wine magnificently celebrates the historical vocation of a fascinating territory.

Cantina Girlan was founded in 1923 in an ancient farmstead from the 16th century. Back then 24 winegrowers laid the foundation stones of what was later to become the winery we see today. The walls, steeped in ancient tradition, and the labyrinthine corridors of the cellar harbour the secrets of state-of-the-art winemaking technology and hold the ideal conditions for ageing our wines.

Today, about 200 greatly committed and motivated winegrowers and their families farm an area covering about 230 hectares of vineyards in the best production areas of Oltradige and Bassa Atesina. Our enologist, Gerhard Kofler, keeps in close personal contact with the winegrowers and provides his professional advice during the growing season. This beneficial exchange of expertise sets the foundations for producing highest quality wines. The wines are among the most awarded in the region and available in more than 40 countries worldwide.
