Description
What kind of wine is it
Girlan Alto Adige Pinot Nero Trattmann Riserva is a still red wine made from Pinot Noir grapes. A true expression of Alto Adige, it appears a ruby red colour with elegant garnet highlights. On the nose, it releases complex aromas of cherry and morello cherry, while on the palate it reveals a delicate profile, supported by fruity tannins that give the wine excellent structure and a pleasant persistence.
Where does it come from
The grapes come from the area of Cornaiano, in the province of Bolzano, at the heart of the picturesque wine landscape of Alto Adige. The Girlan vineyards are rooted in clay and silt soils, characterised by the presence of debris from the disintegration of limestone rock. This specific soil composition encourages balanced vine growth, allowing for wines with measured structure and exceptional elegance.
How is it produced
After manual harvesting, the must is transferred by gravity into stainless steel vats for fermentation lasting 20-24 days, followed by malolactic fermentation. Maturation initially takes place for 12 months in barriques and large oak barrels. Subsequently, the wine rests for a further 8 months in a large barrel and completes its journey with an additional 6 months of ageing before release. After decanting for about an hour and served at a temperature of 14-16 °C, it pairs ideally with roasts, game and mature cheeses.
History and Curiosities
An expression of the excellence of Alto Adige DOC, the Pinot Nero Trattmann Riserva 2023 embodies the mastery of the Girlan winery, founded in Cornaiano in 1923. Under the guidance of Gerhard Kofler, manual harvesting and gravity-based processing preserve the absolute purity of the grapes. Ideal for enhancing elegant dinners, this bottle boasts an extraordinary longevity of 5-10 years, ensuring a fascinating evolution.
