Description
What kind of wine it is
Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo is a still red wine from Piedmont made from Nebbiolo grapes. This Barolo stands out for its production approach, using only indigenous yeasts during the natural fermentation process. In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red colour, enhanced by vibrant highlights and subtle violet hues. The aromatic profile offers an ethereal bouquet, leading to a structured palate where aromas of liquorice, dried rose and characteristic tar notes emerge. Warm sensations and spicy notes complete a satisfying tasting experience, ideal paired with game, rich international dishes and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This Barolo originates in Piedmont, in the area of Monforte d’Alba, from grapes harvested in renowned parcels such as Bussia, Cannubi and Villero. The vines grow in a hilly area at around 350 metres above sea level, benefiting from optimal east and south-west exposures. The terroir is defined by an elvezian soil, characterised by a complex layering of sand, clay and calcareous marl, enriched by a significant concentration of iron. This unique ecosystem gives the Nebbiolo a solid structure and a distinctive aromatic imprint, ensuring an ageing potential that can easily exceed a decade.
How it is produced
The harvest takes place at the beginning of October with rigorous selection in the vineyard, minimising interventions in the cellar. The process involves a long maceration and spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tanks lasting about forty days. After a period of rest in steel, the wine matures for thirty months in large Slavonian oak barrels, then completes its balance with a final refinement in the bottle. To enhance the depth of this red, a preliminary decanting of one hour is recommended, serving the wine at an ideal temperature between 18 and 20°C.
History and Curiosities
The 2022 Barolo by Giacomo Fenocchio embodies the excellence of Monforte d’Alba, the result of a noble family tradition that began in 1864. This wine captivates with ethereal aromas of liquorice and wilted rose, enhanced by 30 months of ageing in Slavonian oak barrels. Produced through prolonged maceration with indigenous yeasts, it fully expresses the characteristics of the Helvetian soil, rich in iron and clay. Perfect when paired with game and mature cheeses, it offers a warm and spicy sip that celebrates authentic Piedmontese elegance.

The cultivation in all the vineyards is based on the principles of sustainability aimed at reducing the environmental impact more and more.
