Description
What kind of wine it is
Gatinois Champagne Grand Cru Tradition Brut combines the structural power of Pinot Noir with the elegance of Chardonnay. Crafted according to the principles of the Traditional Method, it displays a clear aromatic profile, characterised by notes of pear and linden that evolve towards toasted hints. On the palate, the fresh entry is supported by a rounded structure that gives breadth and depth to the sip. The integration of the grapes in the blend creates an impeccable taste balance, offering a harmonious and persistent drink.
Where it comes from
The roots of this wine lie in the terroir of Aÿ, a renowned Grand Cru village located at the foot of the Montagne de Reims, in the heart of Champagne. The particular conformation of the land naturally protects the vineyards, favouring balanced ripening of the fruit. The excellent sun exposure allows the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to fully express their identity, reflecting a distinctive local character. Gatinois works with dedication to enhance the authentic territorial imprint of these soils.
How it is produced
The production process follows the strict steps of the Traditional Method, with a prolonged ageing on the lees in the cellars of the Maison, essential for giving complexity and structure. A careful Brut dosage perfects the final balance, enhancing the wine's liveliness. Thanks to its elegance, it is the ideal companion for sushi and scallops, foie gras canapés or refined fish dishes.
History and Curiosities
The Champagne Grand Cru Brut Tradition from Gatinois embodies the soul of the renowned land of Aÿ, cultivated by a winemaking dynasty that, since 1696, has now reached its twelfth generation. After supplying its prized grapes to the Bollinger house for decades, the company has been bottling under its own name since 1921. This historic legacy is reflected in a classic method of the highest standard, combining the structure of Pinot Noir with the elegance of Chardonnay, cementing a reputation for excellence on the wine lists of the most prestigious restaurants.

In the early 20th century, great-grandfather Emile MICHEL-LE CACHEUR was a fervent defender of the winemakers’ interests in Champagne. In 1911, he became one of the founding members of today’s SGV champagne syndicate. His daughter, Marie, married Charles GATINOIS in 1921 and continued her father’s work: the GATINOIS name has appeared on the bottles ever since.
Emile and Micheline GATINOIS took over the domaine after the Second World War. Between 1980 and 2010, their daughter Marie and her husband Pierre CHEVAL were at the helm of the prestigious family company. Dedication is clearly a family trait which has been passed on, as Pierre is the founder of the Villa Bissinger (The National Institute of Wines from Champagne) and currently chairs the Champagne Landscapes Association that lead to their listing to the Unesco World Heritage list in 2015. His son, Louis, now perpetuates the family’s 300 years of knowhow. Read more
