Description

What kind of wine it is

Langhe Sito Moresco is an enveloping still red wine from the Langhe, capable of blending local character with an international profile. This elegant blend harmonises Nebbiolo, Barbera and Merlot, revealing an intense ruby red colour in the glass. The bouquet expresses deep notes of wild berries, Parma violet, medicinal herbs and dark spices. On the palate, it is structured and smooth, supported by well-integrated tannins that accompany a long finish with clear balsamic hints.

Where it comes from

The wine is born in the heart of Piedmont, in the renowned Barbaresco area, a benchmark for Italian wine excellence. The signature is that of Gaja, a prestigious family-run estate that has been enhancing its vineyards with utmost rigour for generations. Thanks to careful management, the grapes express the richness of the region at its best. These characteristics give the wine an exceptional ageing potential, allowing it to evolve elegantly over the years.

How it is produced

Production follows a meticulous vinification process, aimed at preserving the integrity of the aromatic profile and original freshness. After fermentation, the wine rests for at least twelve months in stainless steel tanks, an essential choice to maintain the purity of the fruit. Subsequently, the wine undergoes further bottle ageing for several months. This maturation harmonises its structure, making it the ideal companion for game dishes or refined selections of mature cheeses.

History and Curiosities

The Sito Moresco 2023 embodies the prestige of the Gaja winery, a historic family business founded in Barbaresco in 1859. The oenological expertise of Guido Rivella enhances the 92 hectares of estate located within the Langhe DOC denomination, skilfully orchestrating Barbera, Merlot and Nebbiolo in an exceptional blend. The production process involves at least 12 months of ageing in steel, followed by further maturation in the bottle. The result is a still red wine of extraordinary longevity, capable of evolving elegantly over time for up to fifteen years.

The Gaja family settled in Piedmont in the mid-seventeenth century. Four generations have succeeded in producing wine since Giovanni Gaja in 1859, founded the winery in Barbaresco in the Langhe. Angelo, son of John, is the second generation. He married Clotilde Rey, who is credited traditionally credited with having imposed in the current company's production philosophy, oriented towards high-quality wine. The exponent of the third generation Giovanni Gaja was the son of Clotilde and Angelo Gaja, who died in 2002. Angelo Gaja, the current owner, joined the company in 1961 and made his own choices that were already his father and grandfather. He worked to spread the knowledge of state and Barbaresco in foreign markets.
