Description

What kind of wine is it

Gaja Barbaresco is a still red wine of extraordinary elegance, capable of expressing the essence of the Nebbiolo grape variety. On the nose, it reveals a deep bouquet where wild berries, cherry and raspberry emerge, enriched by hints of violet, black pepper and leather. Distinctive notes of mentholated tobacco and a pronounced mineral character define its aromatic profile. On the palate, it impresses with lively freshness and savouriness, supported by velvety tannins that lead to a long and invigorating finish.

Where does it come from

This excellence originates in the heart of Piedmont, specifically in the Barbaresco area. The unbreakable bond with the Cuneo region defines the soul of this renowned denomination, an expression of a dedicated terroir that ensures extraordinary aromatic precision. The microclimate and soil composition give the wine a solid structure and long persistence, making it a faithful and refined interpreter of its land of origin.

How is it produced

After vinification, the wine undergoes a period of ageing in barriques and large casks, a crucial phase for shaping the structure and harmonising the tannic texture. This process preserves the original freshness and minerality, ensuring impeccable balance. To fully appreciate its nuances, it is recommended to decant for about an hour. At the table, it finds the ideal pairing with dishes based on beef, veal, game, rich traditional first courses, cured meats and mature cheeses.

The Gaja family settled in Piedmont in the mid-seventeenth century. Four generations have succeeded in producing wine since Giovanni Gaja in 1859, founded the winery in Barbaresco in the Langhe. Angelo, son of John, is the second generation. He married Clotilde Rey, who is credited traditionally credited with having imposed in the current company's production philosophy, oriented towards high-quality wine. The exponent of the third generation Giovanni Gaja was the son of Clotilde and Angelo Gaja, who died in 2002. Angelo Gaja, the current owner, joined the company in 1961 and made his own choices that were already his father and grandfather. He worked to spread the knowledge of state and Barbaresco in foreign markets.
