Description
What kind of wine it is
Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino is an elegant still red wine that authentically expresses the Sangiovese grape. In the glass, it displays a bright ruby red colour, revealing defined aromas of peony, blueberry, Mediterranean scrub, liquorice and juniper berries. On the palate, it offers a warm and balanced sip, thanks to a lively and integrated tannin that makes the drinking experience velvety. The medium-long finish, enriched by fruity returns and notes of cinchona, is ideal for accompanying Tuscan cuisine, game and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This Brunello di Montalcino originates in Tuscany, within the historic Fuligni estate. The vineyards stretch across the eastern slope of the hill, an area historically suited to viticulture in this region. The vines cover around ten hectares, set in a landscape characterised by various exposures. The winery is based in Cottimelli, in an eighteenth-century residence located a short distance from the village of Montalcino. The unique features of the soil favour the development of grapes essential for defining the aromatic profile and the structured character that distinguish the company's production.
How it is produced
The vinification process begins with fermentation in stainless steel, a fundamental choice to preserve aromatic freshness and ensure temperature control. Subsequently, the wine rests for thirty-six months in Slavonian oak barrels. This lengthy ageing process stabilises the structure and softens the tannic component, respecting the natural evolution of the grape variety. To fully appreciate its organoleptic complexity, it is recommended to decant for one hour before serving, at a temperature between eighteen and twenty degrees.

Giovanni Maria Fuligni settled in Montalcino at the beginning of 1900 and started to produce wine just as his family had previously done predominantly in the area around Scansano in the Maremma.
The Fuligni Estate in Montalcino, directed by Maria Flora Fuligni consists of approximately 100 hectares of land at varying exposures to the sun. The vines, which extend over about ten hectares, are situated on the eastern part of the hill, a traditional area for Brunello.
The cellars are located at Cottimelli (about three kilometers from Montalcino in the direction of Siena) in an original 18th century residence once the home of Medicean Grand Dukes. Wine tastings are also held on the premises in recently restored rooms which used to accommodate a small monastery of monks in the 16th century. Read more
