Description

What kind of wine it is

Gorgona Bianco is a wine from the Tuscan Coast, created from a harmonious blend of Vermentino and Ansonica. Its straw-yellow colour introduces a bouquet rich in broom, citrus fruits and Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, it stands out for its savoury freshness, balanced by remarkable persistence and an extremely clean, iodine finish. Its consistency between taste and aroma makes it an ideal companion for shellfish and sushi, naturally enhancing dishes based on fish and soft goat's cheese.

Where it comes from

This label originates from the island of Gorgona, located in the heart of the Tuscan Archipelago. The rows of vines stretch across iron-rich soils, protected from prevailing winds thanks to an eastward exposure. The island climate, tempered by the sea, gives the grapes their characteristic saline signature. Frescobaldi manages the vineyards as part of a commendable social and environmental project in collaboration with the local prison, offering inmates the opportunity to work in contact with nature and acquire essential viticultural skills for their social reintegration.

How it is produced

The entire estate adopts strict organic farming methods, using green manure to enrich the soil and promote biodiversity. To ensure the highest quality, the grape harvest follows different timings: Vermentino is harvested in September, while Ansonica is picked in October. This careful management of harvest times preserves a pronounced salinity and the right gustatory tension, defining the authentic style that makes this wine unmistakable.

History and Curiosities

Born in 2012 from the noble collaboration between Frescobaldi and the only prison island in Europe, this extraordinary social and environmental project allows inmates to work in the vineyard, supporting their future reintegration into society. The two hectares of vines, planted in 1999, represent a true symbol of hope. Each year, the wine features a special edition label: the 2024 vintage celebrates the fifty species of local butterflies and the virtuous use of green manure. An excellence that combines ethics and quality, awarded 96 points by James Suckling.

The little joys of life, the pleasure of flavours and taste – these are the sensations Tuscany offers, and which Frescobaldi wishes to dedicate to whoever sees in wine a culture beyond the vine and the grape. The dream of my family is to share our work, our emotions and our passion through our wines, to share a life dedicated to understanding and developing these terroirs, inspired by the spirit of Tuscany, the art of what is beautiful and what is good.

One thousand years of family history are a unique and incomparable treasure of knowledge and tradition. It is our duty to share this passion with future generations, passing on our love for these eternal places, these eternal hills.
