Description
What kind of wine it is
Barolo Classico Fratelli Borgogno is a still red wine made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes, a pure expression of Piedmont. The renowned Barolo designation defines a style in which structure and balance blend harmoniously. In the glass, it displays a ruby colour with garnet highlights, opening up to an aromatic bouquet dominated by medicinal herbs, wild berries and spicy notes. On the palate, it offers a fresh sip, supported by silky and persistent tannins that outline a clear and extremely refined flavour profile, completed by maturation in oak barrels.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the municipality of Novello, in the hilly heart of Piedmont. The vineyards, situated at around three hundred and fifty metres above sea level, benefit from optimal southern and south-eastern exposure. The Guyot-trained rows sink their roots into soil rich in limestone and clay. This geological matrix is fundamental, as it supports the dense tannic structure and ensures a profound gustatory tension. The area's soil and climate conditions favour precise organoleptic development, enhancing the purity of the fruit and the typical qualities of the terroir.
How it is produced
The manual harvest takes place in October, followed by careful processing in the cellar. The extraction process involves submerged cap maceration in wooden vats for fifteen to twenty days. Frequent punch-downs allow optimal management of colour and polyphenolic content. Subsequently, malolactic fermentation occurs spontaneously in steel containers. The maturation phase takes place in Slavonian oak barrels, with timing adapted to best enhance the harvest. The process concludes with a six-month ageing period in a horizontal position, allowing the wine to achieve complete aromatic stability.

At the time of his death, he left the family house and cellar to Lodovico Borgogno. In that house, Lodovico Borgogno passed on to his sons Serio and Battista the art of wine-making and the deep love for his land. When he died, Serio and Battista Borgogno inherited some land and a small farmhouse in Cannubi.
With foresight, Serio & Battista Borgogno managed to turn their dream into reality: building their house and their winery on top of Cannubi, buying more vineyards all around for a total of 3 ha, in the heart of Cannubi. They were able to grasp the great potential of a place that is now worldwide known and that is considered one of the best cru in Barolo. Read more
