Description

What kind of wine it is

Fortemasso Barolo Castelletto is a red wine with a harmonious profile and great body. It displays a vibrant ruby colour with slight orange reflections and a clear bouquet of violets, spices, hay and liquorice. On the palate, it is dry, with a very persistent and complex finish. This solid structure pairs perfectly with stuffed pasta, braised meats and game. As it evolves, it enhances truffle dishes and mature cheeses, proving to be an excellent meditation wine that oscillates between power and elegance.

Where it comes from

The Nebbiolo grapes come from the Castelletto area, in the territory of Monforte d’Alba. The vineyards, cultivated using the Guyot system, benefit from an east and south-east exposure, ideal for ripening the bunches. The roots sink into calcareous and sandy-loam soils, which are crucial in giving the wine its typical structured flavour profile. These pedoclimatic conditions, the highest expression of Barolo, define the elegance of this Piedmontese red.

How it is produced

After manual harvesting, the bunches are destemmed and crushed. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature with daily pump-overs. This is followed by a prolonged submerged cap maceration, useful for extracting colour and aromas, during which malolactic fermentation occurs. The process continues with maturation in wooden barrels for about thirty months, followed by a final refinement in the bottle to ensure perfect flavour balance.

History and Curiosities

Born in the renowned terroir of Monforte d’Alba, Fortemasso Barolo Castelletto 2020 is the pure expression of the Nebbiolo grape variety grown on calcareous and sandy soils. After a long thirty-month maturation in wood, the wine reveals a harmonious body enriched with delicate notes of violet, spices and liquorice. Awarded the Tre Bicchieri Gambero Rosso, this complex vintage masterfully enhances rich braised dishes, stewed game and fine aged cheeses, offering the palate a persistent and elegant finish.

Harmonious and full-bodied, this Barolo enhances the richness of starters with meat ragù and stuffed pasta. Its deep persistence makes it the ideal companion for structured main courses, such as braised meats and stewed game. Also excellent on its own as a meditation wine, over time it will beautifully complement truffle dishes and long-aged cheeses.
