Description
What type of wine it is
The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Panzano Terrazze di San Leolino from Fontodi is a still organic red wine that expresses an authentic territorial vocation. Made from Sangiovese grapes, it stands out for its structured and elegant style, capable of undergoing a long evolution over time. The sensory profile is dry and concentrated, supported by a significant texture that gives the sip definition and depth. Careful winemaking with fermentation in steel and ageing in barrels allows for the enhancement of the purity of the fruit from the Tuscany region, ensuring a clear character and complex aromatic precision from the first taste.
Where it comes from
This interpretation of Chianti Classico originates in the Terrazze San Leolino vineyards, located in Panzano in Chianti, in the heart of Tuscany. The vines grow on characteristic south-facing terraces, a position that ensures constant and optimal ripening of the grapes. The deep soils of this slope create ideal water reserves, encouraging the balanced development of the plant and giving the wine density and structure. The management of the plots, with a Guyot training system and a planting density of six thousand vines per hectare, aims to obtain grapes that are the ultimate expression of the territory.
How it is produced
The winemaking process begins with the harvesting of the Sangiovese and continues with spontaneous fermentation carried out by indigenous yeasts. Maceration takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature and lasts for at least three weeks, an essential period for extracting a defined tannic texture and an intense colour. Subsequently, the wine is aged in French oak barrels for twenty-four months, a phase that integrates the varietal structure with the contribution of the wood. This approach, which prioritises the naturalness of fermentation and the long rest in the cellar, gives the wine stability and remarkable complexity.

Fontodi is a certified organic farm and covers 170 hectares, of which more than 80 are planted with vines. The principles of naturalness and sustainability inspire the agriculture that is practised: not only are no synthetic chemical products used, but an attempt is made to make the most of the company's internal resources by reducing external inputs. For example, the vineyards are fertilised using compost produced by combining pruning residues and manure from the farm's own Chianina breeding. Respecting the environment produces better, cleaner wines with a better expression of the terroir. Read more
