Description
What kind of wine it is
Moscato Asti Le Fronde by Fontanafredda is a sweet, sparkling white wine that is organic and holds a controlled and guaranteed designation of origin, faithfully expressing the character of Piedmont. Made from Moscato grapes, it reveals an intense straw yellow colour with greenish highlights. The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of moss, linden blossom, acacia, orange blossom and sage, accompanied by hints of honey and citrus. On the palate, the natural fruity sweetness is balanced by a delicate freshness, offering a harmonious sip reminiscent of freshly picked grapes. Perfect as an elegant dessert wine, it pairs beautifully with baked pastries, fresh fruit or a light aperitif.
Where it comes from
The grapes grow in Piedmont between the Langa Albese and the Asti area, in the hillside vineyards of Serralunga d’Alba, Alba, Santo Stefano Belbo and Calosso. The vines thrive at altitudes between two hundred and fifty and four hundred metres, with east and west exposures. The calcareous and clay soils are essential for defining the clear expression of Moscato. Cultivated using the Guyot system, these plants allow Fontanafredda to enhance the territory of Moscato d’Asti, delivering a fragrant and lively glass of wine.
How it is produced
The bunches are harvested in September and undergo a gentle pressing to extract a clear and aromatic must. The liquid rests at low temperatures in storage tanks and is then filtered, remaining chilled until the process begins. The temperature-controlled fermentation is promptly halted with rapid cooling, a procedure that preserves the original aromatic richness and natural residual sugar. The result is a balanced wine, ideal for tasting from the very first weeks after harvest to appreciate its complete immediacy.
History and Curiosities
Produced by the historic Fontanafredda winery in the Langhe region, this Moscato d’Asti DOCG pays homage to Piedmontese tradition. Among its most notable curiosities are the awards it has received at prestigious wine competitions, including the Japan Wine Challenge, Bibenda and Veronelli.

Like all beautiful things, Fontanafredda originates from a love story between the first King of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele II, and Rosa Vercellana.
Producers of Barolo and sumptuous wines of the Langhe, it was the scene of many firsts: they were the first Barolo to go overseas, the first to produce the first Classic Method in 1959, which was to be the forerunner of Alta Langa.
The founding principle of the winery is the concept of community.
Since 2018, Fontanafredda has been cultivating 120 organically certified hectares that are the setting for Italy's first Storytelling Village ('Villaggio Narrante'), which is still home to 12 families of workers who make the village an authentic village, alive and productive.
Fontanafredda is also hospitality, a meeting place where everyone is welcome thanks to its 4-star hospitality.
Today, the company preserves intact the testimonies of its noble past - the hunting lodge, the village, the extensive cellars, the vineyards - but continues to renew itself and experiment, perfecting what nature and history have handed down. For this reason, in the Langhe, where vines and wine bind generations to each other and shape the landscape, Fontanafredda is an essential reference point. The expression of a wine culture that comes from the earth, from the vineyard, and is refined through the work and creativity of people.
In 2021, the Alta Langa DOCG Contessa Rosa Rosé 2014 was named 'Best Sparkling Wine in the World' according to Tastingbook 2021.
In 2022 the BAROLO SERRALUNGA 2018 entered the TOP100 of WINE SPECTATOR in 78th place. Read more
