Description
What kind of wine it is
Fina's Nero d’Avola is an organic red wine that authentically expresses the character of Sicily. Produced exclusively from Nero d’Avola grapes, it reveals a full-bodied and well-structured profile. On the palate, it stands out for its velvety texture, supported by balanced acidity and elegant tannins. The bouquet is complex and deep, characterised by notes of blackberry and plum and enriched with intriguing hints of sweet spices, cocoa and tobacco.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in western Sicily, near Marsala, within Contrada Bausa. At an altitude of around three hundred metres, the Fina winery practises strict organic viticulture, operating in full respect of the local ecosystem. The use of the vertical trellis training system with Guyot pruning and careful yield control allows for grapes of great concentration, ensuring a good aromatic persistence in the glass.
How it is produced
Harvesting takes place in September, followed by fermentation in stainless steel to preserve the freshness and integrity of the varietal aromas. The wine then undergoes a targeted maturation in large wooden barrels for six months, a fundamental step for its organoleptic development, before concluding the process with a period of rest in the bottle. Visually, it presents an intense ruby red colour with violet highlights, which anticipates a full sip and a long, mineral finish.
History and Curiosities
Regarded as the prince of Sicilian grape varieties, Nero d’Avola has undergone a profound renaissance since the 1970s, evolving from a blending grape to an excellence of noble lineage. Cantine Fina honours this fascinating historical heritage by cultivating its own vineyards in Marsala and producing an organic Sicilia DOC that expresses the true vocation of the region. After fermentation in steel, the slow maturation in large three-thousand-litre barrels and the subsequent rest in the bottle give the wine a broad and velvety structure, crowned by a splendid aromatic persistence.
