Description

What kind of wine it is

Privilegio by Feudi di San Gregorio is a sweet white wine made from Fiano grapes. To the eye, it reveals a crystalline golden yellow colour, while on the nose it offers clear aromas of dried apricot and small white flowers. On the palate, the sip is silky and smooth, balanced by a vibrant acidity and a pleasant mineral note. The long finish recalls candied citrus fruits, cinnamon and white peach peel, making it ideal for pairing with creamy desserts and blue cheeses.

Where it comes from

This passito is produced in Campania, within the Irpinia area, a region of great importance for the promotion of native grape varieties. Feudi di San Gregorio expertly interprets the rich soil and favourable climate of this region. The Irpinian pedoclimatic conditions give the Fiano a fresh and well-defined character. This territorial peculiarity clearly emerges during tasting, where the savoury tension supports the natural sweetness in a true expression of the terroir.

How it is produced

The production technique is based on a careful drying process: the grape bunches rest for eight weeks in a ventilated room to encourage the concentration of sugars. Afterwards, the wine matures for between six and eight months in small barrels, acquiring remarkable structural complexity. A further twelve months of ageing harmoniously integrates the sweet component with the fresh mineral notes. This meticulous care ensures the wine has excellent ageing potential, allowing it to evolve beautifully over time.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1986 in Sorbo Serpico, Feudi di San Gregorio enhances native grape varieties by skilfully blending tradition and innovation. Passito Privilegio is created through a meticulous eight-week drying process in crates in well-ventilated rooms, a crucial step to concentrate the sugars of the Fiano grapes. Maturation for six to eight months in small barrels, followed by a year of rest in the bottle, produces a golden, silky nectar. Under the oenological guidance of Pierpaolo Sirch, this excellence highlights the profound richness of the Irpinian territory.

The Feudi di San Gregorio winery, was founded in 1986 in the town of Sorbo Serpico in the hills of Irpinia and today is one of the symbolic brands of the wine renaissance in southern Italy. The initial 30 hectares of vineyards in Sorbo Serpico have been joined by others in the municipalities of Taurasi, Tufo and Santa Paolina, bringing the total to over 300 hectares of vineyards today, which benefit from the immense properties of the volcanic soil and a climate characterised by significant temperature excursions that enrich the olfactory bouquet of Feudi San Gregorio wines. Feudi San Gregorio stands out for the production of wines such as: Taurasi, Greco di Tufo, Fiano, Falanghina and Rubrato, all from indigenous vines and made with respect for the terroir. Tradition and innovation come together in the Feudi San Gregorio winery, with spaces and shapes that are particular to the place, housing a large barrique cellar that also aims to impose itself as a place of refreshment where new ideas can be discussed and brought to life.
