Description
What kind of wine it is
Messiio di Fertuna is a still red wine made from Merlot grapes, an authentic expression of the Tuscan Maremma. It stands out for its enveloping style and rounded structure, designed to ensure a splendid evolution over time. On the nose, it offers an intense bouquet of black fruits enriched by elegant hints of vanilla, while the palate develops with consistent notes of tobacco and chocolate, enhanced by a delicate touch of caramel.
Where it comes from
This red is born in the heart of the Maremma, within the Gavorrano area. It is a prime area, ideal for cultivating international varieties such as Merlot. Fertuna's agricultural work enhances the peculiarities of the soil, outlining a deep connection with the identity of the Tuscan Maremma. The production environment safeguards the wine's typicality, ensuring a clear territorial imprint always consistent with the winery's oenological philosophy.
How it is produced
The vinification process begins with a partial fermentation in oak barrels, a fundamental technique for defining the rich aromatic texture. Ageing continues for twelve months in barrels, both new and second passage, before the creation of the final blend. A further rest of at least six months allows the wine to reach perfect gustatory harmony. To fully appreciate its complexity, it is recommended to decant for about an hour, serving the wine at a temperature between sixteen and eighteen degrees.
History and Curiosities

This aura of mystery suggested the name Fertuna that, with its elements, reveals itself as an holder of concrete messages close to reality: first of all the consonance with the word "fortuna", which sounds like a good wish, even if its ancient etymological meaning refers to the favorable configuration of a place. Secondly, the theme fert, from Latin fertus, means fertile.
About 50 hectares are used for the production of a variety of specific grapes in order to obtain high quality wines. This surface could be enlarged for further 50 hectares. All vineyards are endowed with a drop by drop irrigation system, nourished by a big artificial lake of about 15.000 sqm, that collects its waters from local sources. An hyper technological cellar placed at the centre of vineyards, shows the project of this estate. The structure made by laminated wood is the best example of modern technology that doesn't forget tradition, recalled by the barriques wood typical of wine history.
A great consignment holds the recent and high technological fleet of farm cars, that is used for all the modern manufactures and is well integrated with insiders' skills. The surface covered is of about 3.600 sqm.
