Description
What kind of wine it is
Franciacorta Satèn Brut by Ferghettina is a white wine from Lombardy with Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin, made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes. Produced using the Traditional Method, it is characterised by reduced pressure in the bottle, which gives it a soft and silky texture. The bright glass reveals a fine and persistent perlage, heralding a complex bouquet. On the nose, notes of pastry, meringue, white fruit and candied citrus emerge, with hints of almond. On the palate, it is creamy and elegant, supported by a vibrant savoury freshness that leads to a long, citrusy finish.
Where it comes from
It originates in the renowned Franciacorta area, from selected grapes in twenty vineyards spread across six municipalities, including Adro. The vines, cultivated at two hundred and fifty metres above sea level using the Guyot system, are rooted in morainic soils. This geology imparts a distinct mineral character and a savouriness that balances the natural softness of the sip. The influence of Lake Iseo ensures a temperate and breezy microclimate, ideal for guiding Chardonnay towards optimal ripeness, preserving its essential aromatic freshness.
How it is produced
The process begins in mid-August with manual harvesting, followed by gentle pressing of whole bunches to extract only the free-run must. The first fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature: most of the wine matures in steel, while a small portion is refined in oak barrels to broaden the aromatic profile. In spring, the wine is bottled for the prise de mousse. This is followed by thirty-six months of ageing on the lees, a crucial stage for developing the deep complexity of flavour and the creamy finesse typical of the Satèn style.
History and Curiosities
Born on the morainic hills of Adro, tempered by the influence of Lake Iseo, this Franciacorta has reflected the expertise of the Gatti family since 1996. Made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes, the Satèn Brut stands out for its unique square bottle: a shape designed to increase the contact surface during the 36 months of ageing on the lees, thus maximising aromatic richness. The lower pressure gives a silky texture, with pastry notes and a citrus finish.

He worked there for more than 20 years, mastering the viticulture of Franciacorta and the most modern winemaking techniques. In 1991, he and his wife Andreina took over the management of four hectares of land and a real estate located in Erbusco, where they soon created a wine cellar. After the harvest of 1991, Roberto presented his first two wines: a Terre di Franciacorta red wine and a white one.
Ferghettina was born, taking down the name of the area where the winery was built. The following year Roberto produced his first Franciacorta, a brut that’s still the strongest suit of the winery. Since then, Ferghettina has expanded significantly. As Roberto was held in high esteem in Franciacorta, he rented many plots of land to plant vines according to high-quality standards of viticulture.
Nowadays, we run 200 hectars of vineyards located in 11 municipalities of Franciacorta, conforming to organic farming principles, in order to exploit the resources of the different soils as fully as possible, to enhance the quality of our wines. Ferghettina is a family matter: everything is managed by Roberto and Andreina, with the help of their children Laura and Matteo, both graduated in oenology, and of a large number of employees and partners.
